  "This place tries so hard to be 5 out of 5, but no, I cannot give it more than 4 out of 5. Maybe even 3.5. But then again, they tried too hard.... My first time to Dominican Republic, stayed there for 5days 4nights in early May 2013 (in fact, just came back last night - So this review is as fresh ..."as their delicious oyster!) with my boyfriend. We are both in our late 20s, young professionals from Manhattan. Food: surprisingly decent. We were too lazy to make reservation with the 3 restaurants, so ended up eating at the Buffet 11 times during the trip lol. And yet it did not disappoint us! (with an exception of an Asian-themed Buffet night, an epic failure... but then again, I'm Asian who is accustomed to New York standard, which naturally makes me an Asian food snob). Seafood was great, wine was decent, coffee was good. Some meat parts were somewhat dry, was hit or miss depending on the night. Oh, avoid the food at the Snack Bar next to the beach though. I had read all the reviews, good and bad, and kept an open mind and my expectations low. I was shocked at t..."he bad reviews, got everything I wanted out of my vacation, and would go back to this resort in a heartbeat. CHECK-IN/PROPERTY: - Check-in went relatively smoothly. We had requested 2 double beds but when we checked in it was a single king bed. When I went back to ask to switch rooms, they looked but said they wouldn't have a double room available until the following morning. We had to share a bed for one night, but it wasn't a big deal.The next morning we moved to the other room without hassle. When we noticed there wasn't a coffee maker in the new room, we mentioned it to a nearby maid and she ran to get us another one straight away. Minor hitch with the room swap, resolved as quickly ...   "We have just returned from the Gran Bahia Principe, La Romana and have enjoyed a relaxing holiday in a great resort. Our room was in block 18, one of the diamond suites, and was light,airey, clean and spacious. The decor was very well coordinated and the furniture was modern and practical. Nice big ..."bathroom with great shower and robes and slippers as well! The hotel is set in beautiful, well kept gardens and is also right on the beach of soft white sand. The main restaurant offers great choices at every meal and will suit all tastes. Food is all tasty, fresh and very well presented. We also ate in both the Italian and Seafood restaurants which also offered wonderful food. The only criticism we would have is that these are understaffed so we did need to wait for wine and food, however it was worth the wait!
