"This small, quaint hotel is one of the best in Axum. The staff was very polite and the food and ambiance is great. The rooms are large and the bathrooms are a decent size. The hotel is in a quiet, restful area but not far from the historic sites. There are a lot of different levels and the resta..."urant and dining area is tastefully done. Overall, a great place to stay. Mosquitoes are a constant challenge in the historic areas.

"On returning to the Axum hotel I was pleased to be recognised by the reception team. Everyone tried to do the best they can with limited resources , please remember that this country is developing and is improving on each visit. Breakfast in the new building is served quicker by a chef cooking omele..."ttes in front of you so if you are pressed for time this is quicker than the older restaurant. I always stay in the new building as I am a female travelling alone and the security of the rooms and locks are better.
If you need a bajaj the little three wheeled blue taxi to get around then I suggest that you contact Kalayu he speaks some english and is known to the reception staff at the Axum as I always get them to call him for me. His number is 251 914 768 911. I have found him to be safe and reliable and punctual. Remember that the ethiopian time is different to ours and show him the time you wish him to collect you on your watch,

Take some mozzy spray as we picked up a few bites. The showers are good. Lots of storage space a fridge & a TV. There's a gym but..." I didn't use it so can't comment. Breakfast is Ethiopian style. If you're ultra fussy take your own cereal. The omlettes were very nice each day.
You can arrange trips out from the hotel very reasonably with a guide. We got a mini bus for 9 of us and had a great time exploring churches with ancient icons. The countryside is beautiful. The restaurant food is OK for a couple of night s and cheap. A pasta dish costs about £2 and a beer is £1. St George beer is like lager or go for an amber! They are fine with you taking in your own ketchup, parmesan or wjhatever...if that's your style. Finally ask for a room at the back as the ones atthe front can be noisy in the early hours when random car ...
