We've been before as a couple, but visited this time with our son (his 1st time) The food was as delicious, well presented and reasonably priced as on our previous visit. The whole ambiance and friendliness make this one of the 'must visit' gastro pubs in Cumbria, Beer and Food are excellent.

Touring the lakes I wanted a pub with accommodation and good food. I certainly found it here. Small but really nice room, en suite, very clean. An excellent meal. A slightly disappointing wine but perhaps I just made the wrong choice. All in an excellent stopover. Highly recommend

I have been to this pub on countless occasions whenever my husband and I are in the Keswick area even staying there once Its always packed and reserving a table is best to avoid disappointment. Despite this we never feel hurried and the food and staff are amazing. I can;t recommend it enough, it's a typical English coaching inn cosy... More

Went to the pub for lunch after our walk from Keswick, I chose the farrier club sandwich which me and mu hubby we're going to share, he was worried that it wouldn't be enough, but it was more than enough for the two of us, well presented with a side salad and lovely creamy coleslaw, a very nice mid-day snack... Booked this place only because my favoured place in Troutbeck had had a fire so was under repair and closed. Happened upon this place by chance after a ten mile walk and on our way home. Landlady was so friendly and sympathetic to our aching bodies. Place was so buzzing and food looked good. Because of this we took a... More

Mum booked 8 of us in for one night, fantastic. The rooms were clean and we were made to feel most welcome. My Dad's birthday cake was smuggled into the pub and after a great 3 course meal, the staff paraded the cake singing " Happy Birthday Roy. " They are a credit to the management and looked after us... Had a great night celebrating the walk up the last Wainright with an overnight stay and meal with family / friends . Food very good . Service friendly and landlady very hospitable . Delightful village location . Stayed in cottage attached to pub , suitable for a family as 3 bedrooms , kitchen and bathroom, lounge and own entrance .... More

Firstly, I couldn't possibly comment about staying! This is about the restaurant only based on my one visit. As a frequent visitor to my favourite part of the country I am well used to the Lakeland inn, pub and occasionally somewhat grandiosely named coaching house. I very rarely eat a bad meal in the Lakes, menus vary little from pub... More

A 1-night return visit to the H&F! Reassuringly, this venerable old inn never fails to charm & remains a lively, busy place with a friendly welcome. Sadly, it's now somewhat careworn in places & in need of freshening up! Especially room 2, a small twin-bed room in which we stayed and that surprisingly had some mould on the ceiling above... More

Very varied menu from pheasant to scampi. Good sized portions. Food very hot & arrived fast! The restaurant was extremely busy and popular so we had expected a long wait as it was Saturday night. Friendly bar staff & waitress. Good beers. Views from the Beer Garden stunning! Definitely a good find! :)
