We stayed here last week for a couple of nights and had a great stay! First of all the staff were fantastically attentive and friendly. We were running late on arrival and so phoned our order in for some food as we were going to get there after they stopped serving food. A lot of pubs would of said no,... More

Another lovely stay at the Horse and Farrier. Did one of the many walks in the area and back to the Pub for a fantastic meal in the evening. Had the Sirloin Steak, cooked just how we like it. All the staff make you feel so welcome. Already booked our return visit.

Arrived as part of a romantic break with hubby. We were directed to what I think was the 'cottage' down the road from the inn. It was unlit and difficult to find initially. On entering we were both aghast at what I would describe as substandard accommodation. Extremely old and dated appliances including a rusted bathroom heater which looked quite... More

We ate 2 nights running, warm friendly staff, good higher quality food, and even a little birthday pudding for myself! Weather was grim as weekend of the terrible floods in Cumbria, but good welcome and cosy, and it stayed open!

After a wet walk on the fells stopped here for lunch. Six of us shared 3 dishes which the pub is very happy for you to do. It was snowing after lunch and the owner was very happy for us to sit and play cards for an hour or so till the snow eased. Good food, chips to die for!

There were 4 in our party in during the weekend of the Desmond storm. The staff are always brilliant from Mike and Keith to all the others, accommodation was great and food even better. The beer prices have gone up a bit but the ambience in the H&F and the Sally makes it a small prices. Don't recognise the negative... More

Our stay did not live up to expectations! We have visited the Horse and Farrier on many occacions for a drink after a walk and always enjoyed visiting it due to its location and character. We decided to stay over and have a meal in the restaurant for our anniversary and were on the whole very disappointed. We found the... More

They've just put their prices up again for dogs. £12 per night per dog (used to be £10). We have two Springers, that's £24 per night extra on the price of the room. The dogs don't sleep in hotel beds and don't eat the hotel food, why charge at all? So they've just sent me a winter offer....it's entirely negated... More

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to review the Horse & farrier, the dog charge has been the current rate for 18 months now, the rate charged for the dogs needs to be in place to offset the extra cost in cleaning the room and also the specialist cleaning that needs to be done regarding linen etc. This... HAd several meals in this pub whilst on summer holiday, always had excellent food, service and ale. Would highly recommend this to anyone as a great place to walk out from - we will be booking some nights very soon. Nik & Kay

Stayed here with hubby on Friday night, the views around the pub are amazing. This is a lovely old pub, great atmosphere and wonderfully welcoming staff. Our room had great views. Breakfast was delicious. We will definitely be returning!
