The Horse and Farrier was more than just a welcome shelter from the Lakeland rain! We stopped for lunch and were more than impressed with the simple, uncomplicated, freshly prepared fare. The warm welcome is genuine and the local Jennings beers are well kept. We will definitely be back.

We stayed in the Horse and Farrier for one night in a tiny twin room with a view out to the rear sheds, a single wardrobe, two old sets of drawers and a small, slightly grubby en suite. The room was very unprepossessing with no pictures on the magnolia walls and no redeeming features. The beds were actually comfortable enough... More

Thirteen of us had lunch on Bank Holiday Monday! You could be forgiven if you think it was impossible for us to all have a great meal and beers given the date and the size of the party but no!! It was superb all served together, piping hot and delicious.

It's an added bonus to have a quaint charming English dining pub in the heart of the pretty Threlkeld village lying at the foot of Blencathra mountain where we normally stay in one of the village's holiday cottages and often will dine at our favourite nearby popular pub where you are guaranteed to get very friendly and hard working attentive... The Horse and Farrier was a big disappointment. Our room was OK to a point but the first thing we found was dog hairs on the pillows. They allow pets so our room was not as clean as we had hoped. No bath but had a shower which was small and pokey which we did not use. The Hotel /... More

FIRST VISIT My husband and I arrived about 17.45 without a reservation but were warmly greeted by a pleasant youg man and shown to a table where we had excellent service and food of a very high standard. A trio of fish perfectly cooked and presented as if in a four star restaurant. My husband who is in a wheelchair... More

On our regular visits to the Lakes we always come back to this lovely coaching inn, so full of character and atmosphere. Last week was no exception. End of school holidays meant fewer people and the restaurant wasn't as full as usual which made the occasion even nicer. The food was of the usual high standard, beautifully cooked and served... We stayed at the Horse and Farrier Inn, we have eaten here before and it is excellently located for local walks. As before we found the meals excellent. We tried the curry, the chilli, the Cumberland sausage and the steak and ale pie. The local ales were also excellent. The only area for improvement would be that the accommodation does... More

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2015

We visited The Horse &Farrier after climbing Blencathra on a sunny day in April. The pub was clean and welcoming. Had a family meal and I have to say the food was delicious - Stilton and broccoli soup was just amazing! Very clean toilets, very nice staff. Money well spend!
