I think in general I was not a big fan of Boca Chica. The hotel was nothing special and the rooms were a bit dark and old. However, the pool was nice, service was ok and it was safe. I do think it is good value for what you can get in this price range in Boca chica, especially if... More

Stayed in this hotel in March 2012. Well, the renovations are still under way. At the rate of 1 Dominican handy man working on the field, I guess that the work will end in 2015 or so. If you are unlucky you get a non renovated room like I did, well you certainly overpaid your stay. It's a Dominican owned... More

I started going to candil years ago when Petteri & Guissipi ran the place. They were really classy guys. Even tho it was a small place you got 4 star treatment. And the place was immaculate and security was tight. Then an Italian woman took it over. She was nice. Didnt say much but always smiled at gave you an... More

This is a nicely laid out facility: two-story structures surrounding a central swimming pool in a secure compound two blocks from the beach. The rooms and furnishings though are a flashback to the 70's. Nothing but a gut rehab can bring this place up to standard, and it appears that exactly this is underway. Wait until the work's complete before... More

The website for this hotel said nothing about the construction going on in one of the 4 buildings on the property. Since the property is small the grinding, sawing and noise is a major problem. My advice:close the hotel, renovate then reopen. For whatever reason(maybe due to the construction, who knows) the water supply occasionally quit(usually when you are in... More

Not a bad place actually. The actual hotel property is in good condition, there is 24 hr security and a small-ish pool. The restuarant is ok, but it's actually much cheaper to eat on the main drag 2 blocks away at Ave Duarte. The hotel staff were also pretty helpful, to the extent that only a few can speak English.... Since my son was 7 years old I have been staying at El Candil for our vacations in DR. The staff are attentive and caring and real about giving anyone who will listen the do's and don'ts of hanging out in BocaChica. LOL. I have breakfast always from their kitchen. The delicious black coffee that they make, mmmm. I inmediately go... More

This was my first trip to the DR and it was nice that they had someone to pick me up at the airport. Check-in was really easy. There happened to be Italians and people from the capital that were staying at the hotel which added to the experience. There is free WiFi in the hotel so that I could stay... More

I have traveled to many different parts of the dominican republic but I always come back to the El Candil... the staff is great and very accomodating, the rooms are comfortable and the location is great. Its within walking distance to the beach and the main street of the city. If you're looking for a quiet , economical and safe... More
