My wife and I stayed for two nights in May 2015. The room was simple but clean and comfortable, pretty much what I expected for the price. The cost included breakfast which was prepared by the owner, Vitalis and included fresh bread bought every morning at a local bakery and delicious jams, fresh fruit and eggs. Simple yet "rico". I... This hotel has an friendly, intimate feel, and as many have said, feels more like a B&B. The beds, while a little outdated, are cozy and clean, and the breakfast is phenomenal. Homemade to order every morning, eggs, fresh fruit, and delicious bread. The best breakfast we had in CR. And such friendly, welcoming owners with great recommendations! The hotel... More

The Sunset Hotel is a small, family run business with seven rustic rooms. They all have a private bathroom with hot water and there is a shared balcony to watch the great view. Breakfast is included and is served every morning from 7:30am to 10:30am. It consists of fruits, bread, eggs, butter, marmalade, coffee, tea, hot chocolate or milk (as... More

Friendly owner welcomed us. Seven rooms, with lounge/breakfast room. Simple breakfast - typically fresh fruit, eggs and baguette. Very clean. Five rooms overlook the Pacific, so get to see the sunset, but over the trees. 25-30 minutes walk from Santa Elena town centre, mostly downhill. Best to get taxi back ($3). Have to go into town for restaurants

The hotel is located away from the town proper. We've been told we could walk to town but we decided to call for a taxi - good decision because it's not an easy downhill path. The owner runs the place with help from his son and 1-2 gardeners/caretakers. It's quiet and there's a trail at the back of the hotel... More

The sunset view and the garden are fantastic. The hotel however is very, very poor. Reminds me of a hotel in former DDR. You can sleep and wash, that's it. The place is not clean, bathroom is a mess. Walk to the village is quite tough. Going back is up-hill. Can't understand the good rating.

My sister and I with three teens stayed here during peak Christmas season 2014 and was very happy with the accommodation that Mr Vitalis (owner) has given to us. It was a basic clean room with hot shower . The view was fantastic from our room . Quiet and and safe. Breakfast was okay. The hotel is 10 minutes taxi... More

A beautiful, quiet hotel. Vitalis, the owner, is a charming man and extremely welcoming. The garden is amazing, and as the name promises a wonderful view of the sunset. We will be back for a longer stay!

We visited this hotel in January 2015. The hotel has great views and the breakfast area is very cozy again with great views. The rooms are decent. The washrooms need some renovations. Especially the sink didnt have hot water which wasnt too much of an inconvenience but could be improved upon. The shower had hot water only. Overall i would... More

We stayed at the Sunset Hotel four nights in December and we had a great experience. The hotel was very well-indicated and easy to find. It is not near all the other hotels and restaurants but very close to the selvatura park (where all tourist attractions are). The host (Vitalis) was very welcoming, availble and eager to help us with... More
