A delightful stay. The family that runs La Colina was very helpful to say the least. They made sure I was as happy as a little tourist clam. The bagged lunches that they made up for me was a big plus in terms of money conservation; I didn't have to spend $12 on the lunch that the tours sell. They... More

I stayed at this friendly lodge back in February of this year. Run by a lovely American family who are keen to share their knowledge of the local area and will help you organise day trips etc. Nice, welcolming common area and garden out back where you can watch hummingbirds whizzing about! And if you play guitar Thomas will no... More

My husband and I stayed at La Colina for three nights. We were very well treated by the friendly and courteous staff who provided touring advice, did our laundry (for a small fee), served wonderful breakfasts, and allowed us to use their refridgerator for the cheese that we bought just down the road at the local cheese factory. La Colina's... More

For my first time going to Costa Rica would say it was grand. At first i was kind of anti-social because i didn't know anyone, but the staff of La Colina Lodge made me feel at home. My stay was lovely, i had some of the best sleep ever. Then only to wake up to breakfast in the morning and... More

If you’re willing to take a chance on the room you’ll be staying in then this is the place to stay. The website portrays beautiful spacious rooms filled with antiques. However, only a few of these and many more that were like the one we stayed in. The room was filthy and hadn’t even seen a broom let alone been... More

Sadly, our experience in the La Colina Lodge was the worst we have ever had while traveling. The hotel had changed ownership only a month before we arrived. Gone was the nice restaurant our guide had told us about. In its place was a smoky lobby where the owners were drinking. Our first night we discovered there was no hot... More

LODGINGS Not quite the "renovated" lodgings quoted in Lonely Planet. The room we stayed in was rather shabby with dirty looking walls and carpets. The bathroom (whilst giving us the best shower in Costa Rica) was dirty - I don't think the sink had been cleaned for a few weeks as dust and dirt had settled on the once-white sides.... More
