This place is so cute if you like rustic cabins. There is NO TV. But it has a fireplace. When you checkin they give you a flashlight to get to your room. There are no lights around the campgrounds. It is walking distance from everything. But to leave the campgrounds is a long walk down the trail and to the... more

this hotel was ok, but not worth the money they ask, and i felt it didnt offer what the website said. We didnt have a fridge which we thought we would, there were no views, there was a coffee machine that you had to buy the coffee for from reception which i wasnt impressed with, and the included breakfast was... more

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of out tour of Costa Rica. The hotel was just outside Santa Elena, you can walk into town but beware walking back if it is dark as the road is bad and unlit. The cabin was very spacious and clean, sparsley furnished. We had a moutainside one, and it really felt you... more

We stayed at El Sapo Dorado in April for 1 night and were disappointed. The no frills room/cottage in which we stayed didn't have much of a view. The restaurant was nice and the service was great. We had wanted to do a noctural tour to the cloud forest and booked it at the front desk. Instead of booking the... more

If you notice on the web site of this hotel, there are some pictures of the inside of the rooms. I don't know where those rooms were, but it was not # 14. This was a "sunset view" room. There was a nice balcony with a good view. We saw quite a few birds on the property. It was a... more

The rooms here were recently renovated and they show it. The bathrooms were very nice and the room was quite comfortable. It got cold enough at night that we used the fireplace. It would have been nice to have a couch or something in front of the fireplace. We loved staying here - very close to the Monteverde cloud forest,... more

We stayed at 3 separate hotels in Costa Rica, and this was by far the worst, which is surprising because several native Costa Ricans recommended this hotel, so we just trusted their recommendation. We were there with our 2 young children. Girls at the front desk are very sweet. Had to walk up this dirt path, followed by a very... more

This is a place made for folks who enjoy the experience of staying at a cabin in the woods. Sort of like Curry Village in Yosemite but with more amenities. I think if you go expecting a hotel like the Hilton, you're going to be disappointed. The rooms are nicely appointed and the one we stayed in had a second... more

Having booked a 10 day Costa Rica Package, my original itinerary for Monteverde was the Cloud Forest Lodge. After receiving my travel vouchers, and seeing that there was a change to the Sapo Dorado, I questioned the carrier, who told me it was definitely an "upgrade." The cabins were "quaint" but sparse. The walk from the reception desk to the... more
