Dull, huge and without style. They emphasis it is a family business, but there is no feel of this. It is so huge that you need to order several vans to go for meals at the low quality, over-priced restaurant. However, these vans are not allowed to go out of the property and they could not come and get my... More

I just stayed at El Establo at Monte Verde. It is a very nice hotel with great rooms and bathrooms. The views are beautiful and it is located in the middle of the forest. The restaurant is good and has a great breakfast. People in the hotel are very helpful and nice. The hotel has a Spa and a Canopy... More

The El Establo is probably the largest hotel in the Monteverde area and thus caters to tour groups. We stayed in building 4 in a room which we were told was an upgrade from a standard room. Our room was far better than would be expected in this rather remote area of the world. It appears the complex is slowly... More

Hotels caters to a lot of tour groups and college kids. Rooms had gret views but that's about all. We have been at Holiday Inns that are nicer. First time in our lives we have had to wear a wrist band to let the guards know we were guests. Had to sign for beach towels and remote control for TV,... More

Stayed 2 nights at El Establo, Feb, 2007. Georgeous setting, beautifully manicured grounds, overlooks Gulf of Nicoya, cloud forest behind hotel.Within walking distance of good restaurants (Sofia and Pizzeria Johnny). Very clean, good buffet breakfast, staff friendly and helpful. But, the block of rooms (600) is very noisy-heard all wake-up calls, light switches, doors, etc. And yes, as earlier posted the shutlle to take... More

We just got back from Monteverde. My wife and I spent 9 days at the El Establo. We had reserved a junior suite, however when we checked in they upgraded us to a suite. What a nice room and the view was just beautiful. The morning breakfast was a great way to start the day. However, I would recommend eating... More

This was an unusual looking hotel to find way up in the mountains of a third world country. I thought I was in Boulder, Colorado and looked around for the snow???? Really. The architect was a little out of place, but it is beautiful. Lots of wood and glass. We arrived shortly before sundown, after a grueling drive up the... More

I don't know what it is in Costa Rica but nicer Hotels are making their guest wear wrist bands to identify them. I hate it. I hope the trend is short-lived. We stayed in the 600 Building which is at the top of the hill (although it looks as though they're building a 700 building as we speak.) The veiws... More

We're just wrapping up our trip in Costa Rica but I needed to put in this review ASAP! We are not impressed with El Establo. The view is fantastic, the beds are comfortable, and we had a great time on the zip lines on the property. But that's about all I can be positive about. The building housing the 600... More

We stayed at El Establo for three nights on our honeymoon in July 2006. After spending a week on the beach, we wanted to travel to the interior to do some outdoor activities. First of all, Monteverde is a GREAT spot for this. We did the canopy tour, zip line and horseback ride to Arenal. The zip line is the... More
