Luxurious rooms with balconies on an amazing, hilly property. I loved it here, but the property is enormous and does require taking the shuttle bus to the reception area and restaurants if you have trouble walking down the steep terrain. Our group from Gutsy Women Travel included author and journalist Iris Krasnow so we had the double bonus of hearing... More

The rooms are in buildings on the side of a hill. I walk and exercise but it was too steep and too far to walk. You have to call for a car and wait. In the mornings you wait with many other people for a car/van to take a few at a time then return. It rains a lot so... More

This hotel / resort / spa is set on a hillside on the outskirts of Monteverde. The clue may be in the name. The rooms are in blocks of two or three storeys which, although are parallel with the contours, rise up the hillside at an alarming rate. Rooms 901 / 908 are at the top of the site where... More

Things that were best: The room was modern, large with a view to die for. Decent shower pressure, clean linens, comfy bed and good pillows. The food was buffet style, healthy and tasty. The on site canopy zip line and it's guides thrilling beyond words. Most fun ever. Things that were not the best: Your room has open windows to... More

Hotel El Establo is a converted Quaker farming property with spacious rooms, excellent views, and great location. The front desk was extremely helpful, and spoke perfect English. Below I will detail separately the rooms, property, and restaurants. The room we chose had two king beds. To our surprise, it was two stories! While not necessarily furnished with the most pleasing... More

Lovely large room (yellow walls, fern green carpet) with large glass window/door to beautiful vista below of Pacific cove. The hotel is set on several levels and a shuttle bus service is in operation to take guestup and down from their rooms to dinning room and reception. This arrangement is clearly not 'green' as transport is constantly moving up and... More

The room itself was great - and fantastic views over Monteverde valley and with its own rainforest preserve to explore trails. We got the impression its sheer size made for difficulties - just getting to breakfast required either a 10-15 minute walk down steep slopes or calling for the shuttle bus which could take some time. We booked on a... More

This place is impressively artsy, bordering on the pretentious. Great views, but numerous annoying features. The architect should have been required to spend a few nights there. No place in the overly spacious shower to put soap or hair products, poor lighting in the bathroom; it was hard to see enough to put in contact lenses. Dim and poorly placed... More

Stunning views, but everything else left much to be desired. I wasn't aware that the rooms were without a/c, but it wasn't really needed as it was chilly during my stay. The rooms were spacious and relatively clean...there were some stains on the comforter (eek!). If you are a light sleeper then this hotel is not for you because you... More

Lovely hotel in beautiful gardens and setting. Our room was quite a distance from the main part of the hotel where reception, bar and main restaurant are situated, We were in the number 500 block so just over half way up the hill. The shuttle bus service provided arrived promptly when ordered. We walked down the hill once or twice... More
