This is an odd hotel but definitely one worth staying at. It's built up a steep hillside so as they are taxiing you up the hill to your room you are thinking " OMG this is going to be awful being so far away from the Lobby and Restaurant" but then when you get up there and see the view... More

A unique property in that the hotel buildings are constructed on the side of a mountain. While walking about is challenging, the hotel offers on-site transportation pretty much 24-7 ... it's just a phone call away. The restaurant is near the reception area so depending on where your room is located, it could be a heck of a walk. Or... More

My wife and I made reservations for a couples' deep tissue massage here. The price is usually $100 US dollars per person but they were running a special for $70 US dollars. The massage was really good and the facility is quite nice. However, you have to take a hotel shuttle to get there since El Establo is a big... More

I did a full tour of this area in Costa Rica and was excited at the prospect of seeing greenery and all sorts of local creatures -- a full nature tour. The botany did not disappoint, but as for the critters -- not so good. I had a one night stay at the El Establo, which is a massive and... More

The hotel property is massive, and large groups come here. They do have shuttles to take you all over the property, which is really beautiful. You can walk the property, but it is very steep up and down the hills. The two pools were nice, the one higher up was designed nicer, had a bar, and the gym, and you... More

We were really impressed by the large room and pretty views! The hotel is located on the main road and is in a nice location. We took cabs to the town for only $3. The hotel itself is located along a large hill. We were only in the 200 level and were happy we didn't have to trek up the... More

We stayed at the 700 levels rooms. What a magnificent view. Friendly staff and very responsive with the much needed shuttle service. Even saw a coyote lurking below. However, if two things should be addressed. (1) Coffee/tea pots in the room: since you are far from the main lobby, a coffee/tea kettle would be helpful esp. if desired overnight. Very... More

There isn't much to say; in our experience, some hotels are wonderful designs, others are wonder service but few just feel good all around and El Establo, just feel good from all vantages. Thanks for the lovely weekend we spent at your home away from home. Excellent!

First, the rooms are dated, yes they have flat screens and cable, but the decor, very late 70's with the wood paneling. The walls are rather thin, so you can hear people in the hallways talking and slamming doors. Wifi works in the in the pool and reception areas. Food is good, a little pricey, and they do have 2... This is a unique property built to regale in the setting of the sun. The individual units are modern, clean, spacious with refrigerators, but no coffee makers in the room or even coffee services in the units (a staff member told me that the tourists were stealing the coffee makers.) So, with the property spread up a steep hill, you... More
