While this hotel is not close to town, most people who come to Monteverde are coming for the cloud forest. This is one of the closest hotels to the cloud forest, a walk at most 30 min but not strenuous at all. The hotel is situated on a large amount of land and has the feel of still being in... More

On our recent visit to Costa Rica, we spent two nights in Monteverde at the Hotel Fonda Vela. The accommodations were quite nice and the grounds of the hotel were superb! If I had to pick one "downfall" for the Hotel, it was that it was one of the furthest from town---much too far to walk into town. Taxi's into... More

To appreciate the Fonda Vela you have to understand that it's been in Monteverde a long time and the owners pretty much "hand-made" the hotel. The rooms are a bit rustic but very spacious and you surely won't mistake FV for a could-be-anywhere chain. To me, it seemed a perfect fit for the area. The dining room may be one... More

La Fonda Vela is high above the town of Monteverde and is one of the closest hotels to the Cloud Forest entrance. The grounds are spectacular with views down the hillside, expansive lawns and hidden gardens. There are several small lodges on the property some offering better views than others. Our room was in a group of 4 and was... More

Located in beautiful grounds close to the National Parks with stunning views across to the Pacific Ocean. The partially covered pool/spa area was an excellent place to relax (pool was icy cold) and the restaurant/bar complex was very good. We enjoyed one very good dinner and excellent cocktails poured by Eric the very friendly bar manager at Happy Hour. Breakfast... More

We arrived in Monteverde following a wonderful stay at the 5 star Hotel Nayara in Arenal so this hotel had a lot to live up to which unfortunately it struggled to do. Fonda Vela is high up in the mountains surrounds by lush forest and wonderful birds. It has a rustic feel – lots of wood and heavy furniture. Our... More

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in January 2015. The purpose of the stay was visit to the Monteverde rainforest and other attractions in the Monteverde area. The hotel is located 3 km outside Santa Elena and 2 km from the entrance to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Note the road to the hotel is around 30 km of... More

First off we were greeted with a friendly, happy fellow named Orlando. He gave us info. on the top things to do while in Monteverde and called someone to drive our bags to our room. The reception is in its own building (beautiful wood and artwork every where) and we walked a short way to our room #12. Alan, another... More

Hotel Fonda Vela in Monteverde was an unforgettable experience. The hotel itself is located not far from the entrance to the Monteverde cloud forest reserve (all roads Monteverde are dirt roads, it is highly desirable to use 4WD vehicle). The room designed to provide comfort and give pleasant cozy warm feeling. The yard is very spacious , and if not too... More

Fonda Vela has a beautiful location next to the Monteverde Reserve. It has quite nice amenities, such as a pool, wifi in reception area, manicured lawns and a very nice restaurant. There are just two complaints. The road getting there from town is unpaved, makiSanta Eleng it an uncomfortable last mile And the bathrooms were very small. The towels provided... More
