Let me start by saying Monteverde is coffee country and they have some really good coffee always brewed and ready paired with home made banana bread available 24/7 to guests. It really comes in handy because its chilly in Monteverde and some nice coffee and banana bread really hit the spot on multiple occasions. As for the accommodations I found... More

Manakin Lodge was a treasure! The owner, Jonathan Salcedo, has a lovely personality, speaks great English, and has lived in Europe, so he has a cosmopolitan awareness. He cares more about creating good relationships than about making money. He is very helpful and sincere. He has made an effort to create a place that has a peaceful, loving atmosphere of... More

Older facility. Definitely recommend for those on a budget in a group. We had a very big room for the two of us, but it could sleep 5! The young woman at the front desk was extremely sweet and helpful. Try it out if you're on a budget. Wifi worked in the room. Everything is a drive away (the big... More

My girlfriend and I stayed at the lodge for 3 days. The staff was very helpful and friendly, always quick to answer questions or offer recommendations about things to do around town. It is within a walk to downtown as well as some great restaurants and a grocery store. They also offer a free breakfast with coffee throughout the day.... More

The Manakin Lodge was a good place to stay nothing too special, but the rooms were clean and in good working condition. The only thing that was weird, during our two day stay we did not get any room service. The location around Manakin Lodge seems a little sketchy but overall good stay.

I have very mixed thoughts about Manakin Lodge. To begin with, I was arriving at SJO around midnight and wanted to go straight to Monteverde. Part of the reason I booked Manakin was because they could arrange an airport shuttle service for us since we were arriving too late to take the bus or shared vans. I asked about the... More

The hotel is at the bottom of a side street so it is nice a quiet. Most of the rooms have a balcony and those that don't there is a balcony available a few steps from your room. This is important so that you can visit with the"white face" monkeys that stop by almost every morning. We were with touching... More

These were the NICEST people! The rooms were clean and comfortable. We had plenty of space and supplies. Hot water and decent water pressure. A short walk to town, but a cab is inexpensive. The breakfast was basic but fresh and tasty. We had a couple of meals there and all were very good. Loved the folks working there! Great... More

We stayed three nights at this family run hotel, located a 15 minute walk from downtown Santa Elena. It is clean, has plenty of hot water, good free coffee and tea all day long with homemade banana bread. A choice of American or local breakfast is included. The two brother owners, Christian and Edgar, are very friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable.... More
