I have stayed at Number 71 numerous times and it is like a home away from home. The host Phylli is gracious, funny and warm and the B&B is just gorgeous! She takes great care to ensure her guests are welcome without intruding on privacy. The place is totally unique with gorgeous artwork and marvellous garden's....the rooms are clean, comfortable... I don't know where the people stayed that give this so called bed and breakfast a five star rating. When we were there it was dirty, filthy, bathroom not cleaned, long black hair on the tiles, left over soap and shampoo bottles that looked like they were there for months at least, doghair everywhere, dogsmell that made us sleep with... Phylli & the dogs are just wonderful. The house is like an explosion of bohemian artistic expression from the Gaudiesque bathroom to the many sculptures & paintings & the various grottos & balconies. This is a place to fire the imagination & one of those rare finds. Sadly I had to curtail my visit but those who appreciate something a... More

My daughter and I had a lovely stay at number 71. Phylli was so lovely and welcoming and the dogs and cat were a nice homely touch and so entertaining. The place is quirky and arty, close to all amenities and public transport, walkable from Bondi Junction, and yet had a quiet feel to the area. The breakfast at About... More

Quirky, fun, Phylli is great and you're between Bondi and the city for easy access. Each room has it's own verandah and if you stay in the west wing room the bathroom is just next door. It's also cheaper if you're traveling alone which makes this a great option in a usually expensive area.

..And the host Phylli. Not only is the location brilliant, but so is this place. As we stayed for 2 weeks (because we had such a good time), we were able to try all 3 bedrooms. They all had their own feeling and soul. Note if you can't get the ensuite bedroom don't worry because the main bathroom is like... More

I stayed two nights and wished I had stayed another. I loved my room. Bigger than I needed but it was the only one left, and an incredibly reasonable price. The family room is large, homely and has a closed in verandah that overlooks the street. That verandah is like a second small room with table and chairs and a comfortable... More

I can highly recommend #71 if you want a friendly, relaxing and easy place to stay. I just loved staying with Phylli at #71. Nothing was too much trouble. My room was lovely and got the late afternoon sun and had a balcony! Just perfect. You are welcomed by the most glorious street garden. All quite stunning. All was clean,... More

If you make a point of seeking out funky homely comfortable hospitable places to stay and are not fussed about sharing a bathroom or sitting room then this b&b is for you - we loved it. Phylli was a warm and welcoming presence, nothing was too much trouble, and you really feel you have been invited into a home away... More

If you like your hotel experiences all to fit in to the regular (for us, somewhat sterile) standards, then this place is not for you. If though, you like the idea of genuinely welcoming, homely, friendly and relaxed, and you're open to the delight of personal touches that can intrigue, surprise or delight, then you'll probably love Philli's like we...
