This was once one of the La Pinta Inns built by the Mexican government along the trans-peninsular highway from Tijuana to Cabo San Lucas. It is situated in a 'bowl' in an astoundingly beautiful section of Baja California. There is a running stream (very rare) and native Washingtonia filifera palm trees. It is remote, it is 150 miles north to... More

Not only is this a beautiful property with endless pristine beaches, the hotel took in 26 of us at the last minute when there was a problem on the highway! They were able to have our rooms ready in 30 minutes and plenty of food for all :)

After navigating past the potholes near Catavina and several hours of driving we pulled into the Desert Inn. The woman at the front desk had limited English (as is our Spanish) but we managed to book a room with two queen-sized beds. We had a quiet room around the pool. The prices for a single or double room were the... More

The Desert Inn is truly an oasis after a long day of driving on Hwy 1. My friend and I were on a Motorcycle trip and were spending our nights in Budget ($25-$35) motels. He had planned on staying in Guerrero Negro, but after a late start, decided we would call it a night in Catavina. It cost much more... More

I stayed at this hotel a couple of times - March 2013 and March 2011. Given there aren't a lot of choices in the area, I had low expectations the first time I stayed here. I was pleasantly surprised that, in March 2011, hotel management had JUST replaced all the mattresses and bedding a day or so before I arrived.... More

An excellent place to stay. Clean rooms, air conditioning, and pleasant staff. The swimming pool was a real treat after travelling in the heat. A real gem. Full menu available. 3 miles to the north, there are rock paintings worth a visit.

This hotel is a standard for those traveling down Baja. A safe clean place to stop for the night. They have dog-friendly rooms, a good restaurant, and a fun bar with a pool table. It's a bit expensive for what it is, but there are no other real options in the area.

Stayed there twice recently; once while driving to Loreto, and again on the return trip. It is a natural half-way point. Fortunately, this place is, for lack of a better word, 'charming'. The owners seem to take great pride in their hotel, and it shows. It has really improved in recent years. The rooms are large, and clean. The beds... More

After a long day of driving and you're out in the middle of nowhere, the Desert Inn surrounded by the enchanting Boojum Tree forest is the perfect refuge. The rooms are very clean and arched corridors leading to the pool, restaurant, and lobby invites you to relax from a busy day of navigating the winding roads of the Baja. I... More

We stopped at this hotel with two other couples on March 31, 2012. We found it nicer than we had ever seen it before. Rooms-spotless, and power all of the time. The grounds and landscaping were is top shape throughout. The food was good overall, depending on what you ordered. A bit pricey, but all of Baja has become more... More
