our family have been eating at this hotel for over 40 years and have always found the food, staff and service to be excellent, however after our visit today we will never frequent the place again. we called in for lunch and placed our order, after sitting and waiting for 50 minutes the food arrived, it wasn't what we ordered,... Lunch here was probably the first time that I have felt in the xmas mood. Coming in from the bitterly cold winds into a warm, friendly, inviting and packed traditional village pub with a fire, was just the ticket for xmas eve lunch. We knew the food must be good as the place was packed to the rafters and there... More

We paid a quick visit at lunchtime on a busy Xmas Eve (2013). There was certainly a very festive buzz and all tables were taken/reserved, except one, so we were fortunate to find seating. We were warmly greeted by staff on arrival and the drinks served immediately. We ordered a few minutes later from a standard variety of pub-type, hearty... More

Sunday lunch in Captain Cook's village. This pub is an institution! Good menu, good service and great atmosphere. There are two trip advisor listings for this establishment - it is also a B&B. Not stayed personally but I know lots who have and who were pleased.

we booked a table for 5 and were give a large round table at the rear of the restaurant, the table was a good size so we had plenty of room to move, some of the 2 seater's were on the small size and if you have drinks as well it could be a bit of a squash, the bar... More

We stayed overnight and found the rooms clean and comfortable. The evening staff were very helpful and friendly. The bikes were made secure in the cellar. We booked a table for our evening meal which was excellent.and reasonably priced. The breakfast. was also of the same high standard with the morning staff being very very helpful and friendly. Would definitely... More

We regularly eat at the Royal Oak, the food is great, consistent high quality, the staff are attentive, helpful and friendly. Best of all, it's rare I know, but there is no background music , it's traditional good home cooking , in a conducive atmosphere , you will not be disappointed.

We had a meal here around 7 p.m. last Saturday evening after checking out other eating places in the village. The food was tasty, at a reasonable price, and came with a good range of well-cooked vegetables in a serving dish. The service was good and the staff friendly. We did notice that the place got rather busier later on... More

I have been a couple of times to The Royal Oak recently, once for an afternoon tea and once for a lunch. On both occasions, I found the staff very friendly and helpful, the food tasty and the service good. The afternoon tea consisted of a selection of sandwiches, homemade scones with jam and cream and homemade cakes, all delicious.... More
