We stayed at The Royal Oak in Great Ayton for a couple of nights and really enjoyed our stay. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Good hearty food at very reasonable prices. Room possibly in need of some TLC but bed was comfortable and had a good night's sleep. Bath was welcome after walking the moors. Great Ayton is... More

stopped here this week on business trip, was very impressed the staff were very helpful, room comfortable, and it was a very nice change from the usual corporate circuit. There is real ale in the bar and very reasonably priced and excellent food, this was a real surprise ! a cut above the "pub grub" standard. If I am back... More

Went to pub for family meal all 18 of us when the pub was busy. Served with drinks quickly and order taken within 10 minutes. Food arrived faster than expected given the pub was busy at the time. Food was good and all enjoyed the day. Staff were attentive even though busy and couldn't do enough for you. Would I... More

Expensive for basic pub food. My chicken pie was in edible. The pastry raw. Chips were soft and greasy from being cooked wrongly .Manager was rude and aggressive when we complained and then challenged the fact he only deducted a small proportion of costs of my meal as it was part of an 11.95 " deal". Aggressively he snatched my... More

We visited an old favorite for lunch and found things a little run down. Service was slow with no one really focussing on food customers. On positive side the food was excellent although overpriced for a pub meal

You could do far worse than pay this pub a visit for a quick bite to eat or a full hearty meal. Every time we have visited, nothing has been too much trouble for the staff and the food is very reasonably priced given the quality and portion sizes you receive. The Yorkshire puds could do with a bit of... More

On looking at the building yes it's tired and needs updating. We went for lunch to use a Groupon voucher. A welcoming smile and a cheery hello greeted us, and asking how they can help. Ordered drinks which were brought to the table, our voucher was for fish & chips which were superb. Other diners entering were all greeted likewise,... More

We have been to The Royal Oak a couple of times now and really enjoyed it. The first time we went at lunchtime and were really taken with how friendly the waiter was who served us. The food was good and plentiful and we knew we would go back. The second time we went for Sunday lunch and again we... More

We stayed here for one night whilst visiting family, the room was a little tired but i have to say I had a fantastic nights sleep - really comfortable. The staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They even posted us my daughters necklace without us asking which we had left behind and I did'nt even realise... More
