I stayed for one night and the booking was simple and efficient. My room although adequate was a bit tatty around the edges. There is a large gap where the wall meets the ceiling in one corner (see photo). Peeling wallpaper and cobwebs on the ceiling shows a lack of maintenance and a lack of customer care. It is not... My Sunday lunchtime booking seemed to have gone astray, but that didnt bother the really helpful Manager and his team. As there was no more room in the general bar or restaurant we were offered tables in the public bar - which was perfectly suitable for us (which included a high chair! The food was gorgeous and plentiful - with... More

We spent two nights here and feel the quaintness of the old building does not offset the run down - make do appearance. The room we received was old with less than modern bathroom facilities. We enjoyed the cracked ceiling that had settled enough to wonder if it was to fall soon. The beds were old and sagging so a... More

Steak was cooked to perfection just how I asked! Nice little place to stay or dine and the staff are very helpful would definitely recommend as staff are not only very polite and friendly but also really helpful and the food is also really nice. Fish and chips is also really nice

Visited a number of times recently and the problem they had with lots of flies has absolutely disappeared. Well done to the owners for this and you keep possibly one of the best pints of Old Peculiar as well. Lovely pub

We stayed here for a wedding in the village and it was an excellent choice for being able to explore the pretty surroundings of Great Ayton. It would be a cosy place to come back to after hiking in the area too. The rooms aren't huge but have been decorated in a modern style, the beds were comfy and we... More

Great location bang opposite the village green. The staff were extremely helpful and co-operative. They allowed us to store food that we had previously purchased in their freezer. We were also allowed to put our plants in the courtyard instead of having to leave them in the car overnight. The hotel is very busy on Friday and Saturday nights -... More

We took some visitors from the US to sample a 'traditional English pub'. They were delighted with the atmosphere. Quite an extensive menu but largely standard 'pub fare' - everything from fish & chips to steak & ale pie and big steaks. There was a bit of wait between courses but we were there to relax and were not trying... More

Went for tea with my wife and son and luckily arrived before 6pm as there are offers on before this time. We all had different dishes and they were very good and were also good size portions despite being on the 'Specials' menu. Looking at the menu, however, I dont think I would be coming back on an evening as... More
