This is no ordinary dessert camp! Ali, Sara and their attentive team have made this a memorable experience that was all too short. From the camel ride into the camp to the excellent accommodation and food! Really the best way to experience the desert.

From the moment I sent an inquiry to Sara, I knew we were in good hands. Her reply was chock-full of so much helpful information about their camp, Morocco and the Berber people. Upon arriving near the meeting point, I finally had wi-fi (driving thru the gorges doesn't allow one to check emails very often) and figured out I had... More

My husband and I arranged for a night camping with Ali and Sara's Desert Palace in the middle of our Morocco trip. From the very beginning, Sara was extremely helpful with details and was very responsive. I have done desert camping in Jordan and so had a basic expectation but it was exceeded by Ali and Sara. The pick-up location... More

After an hour and a quarter camel ride I was relieved to come to the top of a dune and look down on Ali and Sara's Desert Palace. It truly is, with spacious tents, queen beds on a frame, flush toilets and copious hot water showers on a proper concrete floor shared with one other tent (occupied by our friends).... More

We had a week in Marrakech and decided to hire a car to see the dunes of Erg Chebbi. The round trip was 1300km but we stayed at some fantastic places on both legs of the journey and there is some awesome mountain and desert scenery along the way. Ali and Sara´s desert palace lives up to its name, everything... More

Ali and Sara make a great team. Ali is a born and bred Berber and knows how to show a traveller the best the desert has to offer. Sara totally gets what her customers want: comfort, class, atmosphere, beauty. The camp is attractively set up. There is a shaded area for resting, reading, drinks and snacks. Real dining tables are... More

This was one of the most amazing breaks I have had. I was a little nervous about undertaking such a trip. It helped knowing that Sara was English but I have to say I was overcome but the hospitality of everyone I met. Everyone was so patient and supportive (I have to say I was concerned I would have found... More

Our two night stay at Ali and Sara's Desert Palace was an incredible, unforgettable, once in a lifetime experience. Initial ambivalence about going to the desert at all and worries about commercialism, lack of privacy and primitive facilities were quickly dispelled both in advance via e-mail with Sara and on arrival. The camp is set well away from everything but... More

Sara and Ali are truly terrific hosts. If you are looking for a night away in the desert, trust them to be your guides. Prior to the trip, Sara was extremely responsive and informative via email. She helped not only plan the evening with them, but also answered questions (and helped plan) the day before and after our stay with... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We built our bivouac camp with the aim that our guests could experience the beautiful and natural setting of the desert, staying in clean & comfortable surroundings where the focus is relaxation and enjoyment, together with some safe adventure. We're nestled well within the dunes, about an hour or so from Merzouga village by camel and 20-30 mins by 4x4. If preferred we can collect clients from around Morocco or if travelling independently we can greet you on your arrival in Merzouga village for you to enjoy light refreshments before setting off by the desert ship, the camel to your home for the night. Our aim is to remain as environmentally friendly as possible and lighting is by a combination of candle, oil lamp and solar power. We pump water from our own water well and guests can take hot water showers, with laundered towels and toiletries provided in a large dedicated bathroom which also houses a separate flush toilet. Dining is in our separate well furnished restaurant and food is freshly prepared to suit personal preference and served at a time to suit. We wake our guests to see sunrise although it's not obligatory and breakfast is served at a time to suit, there is no early morning rush or hurry on our part for our guests to leave. Our aim is for guests to have an exceptional desert experience, we take great care of our clients and we pride ourselves on our service, always on hand, but unobtrusive. ... more   less
