We had booked this lodge for two nites, as we were visiting mt ruapehu. $110 per nite! The lodge is in a great location and has all you would need for a weekend away for hitting the snow. Now for and guests staying here please be warned! do not stay in room 51 (or the room by the entrance) This... More

My stay at Howard's Lodge was great. My room was a little colder than I would've liked but just chuck on a few layers and I was sweet. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable which made it that much better. Would happily stay again

We found this accommodation at the last minute when we had given up finding anything in Ruapehu for this weekend. We did not know what to expect, so we were pleasantly surprised with Howard's Lodge. The room was clean and comfortable, with an ensuite, which we like as we are not exactly backpackers. The kitchen was great, modern clean and... More

A group of us stayed for the weekend to go skiing, we had 2 rooms booked and arrived late (after reception had closed) there was a note left telling us where are rooms were and Howard was there to show us the way. The block we were in just had 2 bedrooms upstairs with a large kitchen/dining area unfortunately we... More

Came down for a weekend of boarding. The location is central to the Village and it's easy to find. And it's either very new or very recently renovated. The building itself is clean, modern, warm and bright. As are the rooms. But there were so many things that prevent me from going back again: 1. Mattresses are all soft and... More

Thank you for taking the time for such a thorough review. Howards is a lodge and this does indicate a certain style of accommodation. Our rooms do not have lounges or kitchens, for these to be in room you would need to look more at a motel. With a lodge these things are provided communally, we have 2 large lounges... More

Stayed for 2 nights in July in room with 1 Queen and 1 double bunk. Very clean and tidy, firm bed, quality sheets & towels. Bathroom worked well and shower hot. Nice TV but no Sky. Got good advice on place to go for dinner. Would certainly stay again when next in National Park.

Hotel was clean, tidy, well priced and modern. The fireplace in the common area was great. Ski hire was also very helpful. However, was disappointed to be in a room where heat settings couldn't be individually adjusted. One setting for all rooms in the building and that was unpleasantly cold. Our room was 19 degrees the hallways were 22 degrees... More

Thanks for taking the time to post a review. Sorry you didn't have a fully positive experience. The temps in the halls was between 22 and 25 degrees. The 19 degrees in the room was a reading from the middle of the day when heating is off so in the evening it would be even higher. I honestly think this... More

Enjoyed our stay rooms and private bathroom tidy and clean . Kitchen facilities were great as well,we'll be back for our third visit.A huge help on arrival the night before heading up the mountain was the ability to hire any ski gear required knowing we wouldn't be wasting time sorting it out in the morning

Request on booking to be roomed near family was unnoticed then no effort was made to rectify it Owner was unhelpful and off hand with quests, talking to some asian guests in a condescending way that made me feel embarrassed that he was representing NZ. For those in our part who remained at the lodge during the day found the... More

Hello and thank you for taking the time to review our lodge. I am sorry you don't appear to have enjoyed it as much as we would like. In our defence the 2 rooms you booked and wanted close to each other were of different types, one a standard and one an ensuite. These are logically in different buildings and... More
