A a last minute booking which turned out well! Arrived at the start of winter so although chilly in the rooms the kitchen was warm and open til late. The rooms were spacious, clean and led off from a central hall which doubled as a rock climbing hall! The staff were fantastic and full of walking route knowledge.

There is a climbing wall in the middle of this hostel... So awesome! Didn't actually use it, but it gave the hostel a pretty cool feel. Clean kitchen and really helpful owners!! Everyone is there to do the tongoriro crossing and they have lots of info, with loads of gear available for hire (walking boots, ice picks etc). The shuttle to... More

Although a bit crowded in the kitchen, the room was fine, and the staff are very helpful and informative. They went out of their way on advice, which made our Torangiro alpine crossing all the more pleasant. The nearness to walks papa DOC centre was a benefit, and this too was very good.

Like most people who stay here we spent the night here before doing the famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Comfortable, clean chalet style double room with shared faculties which were clean and there was plenty of hot water in the showers. Nice big space to cook and eat, decent kitchen equipment and opportunities to recycle food waste (always a bonus). Got... More

I stayed two nights to do the Tongariro Apline Crossing. After landing in Auckland and driving 3.5 hours to the hostel, I accidentally overslept and missed the hostel's bus taking people to the track. Not to worry, the owner was lovely and for a small fee was willing to drive me out there nonetheless. They were very informative about the... More

Not too far from the station if you are arriving by train and well situated for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, Shuttle buses run from the hostel and it was easy to book. Our on suite room was very basic, no bedside table or lamp and nowhere to hang anything, however but the room was clean and did have a fantastic... More

Location in National Park. Petrol station nearby with expensive supplies - no alternative. Whakapapa village (start of the Tongariro Northern Circuit) 15 Ks away Modern kitchen, but the rest of the facilities is partially outdated respectively lacks the necessary attention. Having to pass the supplies room with old mattresses and piles of toilet paper to reach the single room is... More

We stayed here for two nights to do the Tongariro crossing. The location is ideal, and the hostel runs a shuttle bus - it worked ok (bit of a shabby bus) but was very expensive for what it is. We thought the hostel itself was also quite poor value - more expensive than most hostels, and not as good. The... More

YHA National Park is a great hostel if your doing the Tongariro crossing. Friendly staff, know there stuff about the crossing itself, big kitchen, clean facilities. Great for a night before doing the crossing.

This place is a 2 min from the bus drop off (at gas station/cafe isite). I stayed in a 10 bed female dorm room 1- was a spacious room with comfortable bunk beds. The place was clean and bathroom and toilets too. The kitchen was spacious with benches and tables to eat and watch the view of mount doom. There... More
