I stayed two nights to do the Tongariro Apline Crossing. After landing in Auckland and driving 3.5 hours to the hostel, I accidentally overslept and missed the hostel's bus taking people to the track. Not to worry, the owner was lovely and for a small fee was willing to drive me out there nonetheless. They were very informative about the... More

Not too far from the station if you are arriving by train and well situated for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, Shuttle buses run from the hostel and it was easy to book. Our on suite room was very basic, no bedside table or lamp and nowhere to hang anything, however but the room was clean and did have a fantastic... More

Location in National Park. Petrol station nearby with expensive supplies - no alternative. Whakapapa village (start of the Tongariro Northern Circuit) 15 Ks away Modern kitchen, but the rest of the facilities is partially outdated respectively lacks the necessary attention. Having to pass the supplies room with old mattresses and piles of toilet paper to reach the single room is... More

We stayed here for two nights to do the Tongariro crossing. The location is ideal, and the hostel runs a shuttle bus - it worked ok (bit of a shabby bus) but was very expensive for what it is. We thought the hostel itself was also quite poor value - more expensive than most hostels, and not as good. The... More

YHA National Park is a great hostel if your doing the Tongariro crossing. Friendly staff, know there stuff about the crossing itself, big kitchen, clean facilities. Great for a night before doing the crossing.

This place is a 2 min from the bus drop off (at gas station/cafe isite). I stayed in a 10 bed female dorm room 1- was a spacious room with comfortable bunk beds. The place was clean and bathroom and toilets too. The kitchen was spacious with benches and tables to eat and watch the view of mount doom. There... More

Our ensuite room was huge, clean and with a lot of light through its big windows. On the other hand it was rather basic: the mattress of our double bed was OK but nothing more, there was only one chair for the two of us, and nothing, not even a nail, on the wall from which one might hang clothes.... Thank you for taking the time to review our facilities. I have passed along your suggestion to have clothing hooks in each of our rooms. We hope the slight inconvenience didn't greatly affect your stay in the village or your experience in Tongariro National Park. Safe travels! More

If you need a break, in a quiet, clean environment. Then National Park is a great place. And the YHA National Park, with its many climbing walls, is the place to stay. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and the staff are brilliant. For a backpackers, this is one of the better ones I have stayed in. It may not be... More

Stayed at the hostel four nights in the month of December. Some staff were friendly. Facilities were very clean and the kitchen convenient. However what ruined our stay was the poor quality of the matresses available. We had three different rooms over our stay and I ended up sleeping on the floor on my camping mattress one night because the... More

Stayed here to do the Tongariro crossing. This was rubbish. Stay at Ohakune ten mileage away, the quality of the hostel is an order of magnitude better. The staff at NP are a little peculiar and its sole purpose is to provide Tongariro accommodation and transport. There is an indoor climbing wall but it is rubbish and expensive, so utterly... More
