I stayed at the hostel for one night and it was both cozy and comfortable. I was in a big dorm room with only two other guests so it was lovely to have all that space for a small number of people though it might be different if the room was full. The staff seemed nice and helpful and the... More

We were scheduled to stay here for two nights while we did the Tongariro Crossing. On the plus side, this hotel/hostel is very cheap, has decent wifi for a reasonable extra cost and a pretty good kitchen. The rock climbing wall was was also a pretty cool feature. There were however some issues. The biggest related to the place being... More

Spacious, clean YHA. Ideal if you are doing the Tangariro Alpine crossing. Some equipment available for rent, boots, waterproofs, batons, gloves. Though expensive so if you come for the above purpose come equipped. The supermarket is stocked with little and expensive so advice is to come with your food and snacks for the crossing. The YHA is well situated, cannot... More

The twin room I stayed in was great value for money. The Whakapapa ski fields are only 15kms away. The kitchen is good if you want to cook your own meals, there are also a few pubs and cafes around too. I think I'm come back here for a Tongariro crossing trip.

Well I guess it's a hostel, but I have stayed a far better hostels around the world. Stayed in room 12. Room was OK, beds were very soft and made you disappear when lying down. Because of this my partner and I slept in separate beds. No towels, I had to go downstairs and ask for towels and then there... More

I stayed here for 2 nights in a private double room. It was quiet, with a comfortable bed and a great little sofa to chill out on. The room was pleasantly warm with the heating on, however the shower was pretty useless - no power shower for sure. Overall I'd definitely stay here again - the staff are helpful too.

Nice room, comfortable bed, sufficient air conditioning thus warm. The kitchen is also spacious enough for several groups of people fix their meal at a time. I also appreciate the transportation arranged for me to the i-Site at Tongariro National Park and back, which included a photo stop and drop off at the train station.

A a last minute booking which turned out well! Arrived at the start of winter so although chilly in the rooms the kitchen was warm and open til late. The rooms were spacious, clean and led off from a central hall which doubled as a rock climbing hall! The staff were fantastic and full of walking route knowledge.

There is a climbing wall in the middle of this hostel... So awesome! Didn't actually use it, but it gave the hostel a pretty cool feel. Clean kitchen and really helpful owners!! Everyone is there to do the tongoriro crossing and they have lots of info, with loads of gear available for hire (walking boots, ice picks etc). The shuttle to... More

Although a bit crowded in the kitchen, the room was fine, and the staff are very helpful and informative. They went out of their way on advice, which made our Torangiro alpine crossing all the more pleasant. The nearness to walks papa DOC centre was a benefit, and this too was very good.
