We stayed in a 1 bedroom chalet Oct 30 and 31st. The first day the weather was cold, rainy and windy and The Crossing was not open. The next day we were leaving and the weather was beautiful. So maybe try to add an extra day to your stay. Our chalet accommodation was really nice. The chalet seemed new and... More

First, as most reviews say, the Discovery Lodge is geared for a Tongariro Crossing. They get you there early, they can provide breakfast and lunch and Callum, the manager is very knowledgeable about the trek. They are working to make the property more attractive as a multi-day destination, but they have a way to go. That said, I am not... More

We did the Tongariro Crossing and stayed at Discovery lodge in a chalet. The chalet is fully equipped and you only need to bring your clothes. The chalet is excellent with an awesome view. The people are very friendly and helpful and the shuttle service is great. Perfect place to stay when you're in this area!

A lovely place to stay, especially if you're interested in hiking the Tongariro Crossing. Some of us stayed in huts, backpacker ensuite and a chalet. Management was friendly and the accommodation was lovely, clean and warm. The backpacker ensuite provided towels and bedding so we didn't have to worry about that which was great. If you catch the earliest shuttle... More

This facility is quite close to the park. They have all variety of accommodations, from spaces for you to set up your tent, to luxury small cottages. We were scheduled for one of the duplex cottages. However, upon settling in, we discovered that the hot water heater was broken. They immediately moved us to the larger, single cottages with no... More

The staffs are really really nice, the location is the closest from the Crossing's departure spot, thy will organize the shuttle for you to and from the crossing so you dont have to worry about it and can just let your car / campervan at the camping in the meantime. You can choose your spot on the camp ground and... More

We booked the Chalet studio. While small, it had pretty much everything you needed. It looked nice, new and modern. Kitchen equipped with basics like microwave and toaster. Also had a single portable stove thingy you can cook on. Fantastic insulation. Good strong heater and electric blankets. Really nice when the weather outside is below zero. The views were excellent... More

We stayed at Discivery Lodge for two nights to hike at Tongariro NP. We stayed in the motel section which is the medium standard they offer there besides camping cottages and luxury houses. The room was very well furnitured with huge windows and great views out of them-especially at morning. The shampoo provided for the shower was the best we... More

My boyfriend and I stayed here two nights. We selected the motel studio accommodation. It was pretty much what was portrayed in photos. It's not a 5 star place but it's nice, clean, and reasonably modern. We liked it. The service staff were outstanding. The evening meal was delicious if somewhat pricey .. But it saves you from having to... More

I booked a studio chalet with my partner for 3 nights to ski Whakapapa. On arrival at night the staff had left my key with instructions on how to find the chalet. The chalet was pre-warmed and in a very clean state. The room was quiet and comfortable. In the morning we awoke to spectacular views of Mt Ruapehu before... More
