We stayed at Discivery Lodge for two nights to hike at Tongariro NP. We stayed in the motel section which is the medium standard they offer there besides camping cottages and luxury houses. The room was very well furnitured with huge windows and great views out of them-especially at morning. The shampoo provided for the shower was the best we... More

My boyfriend and I stayed here two nights. We selected the motel studio accommodation. It was pretty much what was portrayed in photos. It's not a 5 star place but it's nice, clean, and reasonably modern. We liked it. The service staff were outstanding. The evening meal was delicious if somewhat pricey .. But it saves you from having to... More

I booked a studio chalet with my partner for 3 nights to ski Whakapapa. On arrival at night the staff had left my key with instructions on how to find the chalet. The chalet was pre-warmed and in a very clean state. The room was quiet and comfortable. In the morning we awoke to spectacular views of Mt Ruapehu before... More

Rooms were spacious and comfortable and ideally located for the Tongariro Crossing (early morning drop off was key). We ate several meals in the restaurant and were pleased by the fresh ingredients and tasty menu.

The best place to stay for a family experiance, great staff, option for a meal at the resturant. Closest place to the start of the Tongerero Crossing including the "first" morning drop off so you start ahead of the hoards.

We stayed in the basic cabin, for $60 for one night. The location is brilliant with great views of the National Park, it is a short drive to the nearby town. The basic cabin is wooden with a double bed/ bunk bed. Quite small so only share if you know the others well :) The toilet block/ communal area is... More

We stayed here for a couple of nights while travelling from Wellington to Auckland in order to take the opportunity to do some skiing locally at Whakapapa. This was an ideal base. We stayed in a cabin with great views of the mountains and it met all our needs. It was clean, well resourced and warm and cosy when heated.... More

Great location. We were upgraded to a different room. Jed is Superman doing many different jobs and always pleasant and helpful. The rooms are older but very clean and well cared for. The grounds are well cared for. The remote location does not have Wifi but for me that is part of the charm, my teenage daughter may disagree on... More

First of all, the communication has opportunity to improve: Only two days before our stay, we got a mail (that we did not access in that time) saying that our crossing transport was cancelled as well as our lunch packet (+no restaurant) due our stay being off season, as the website indicates. Well, if it was that obvious - you... More

Firstly, we chose Discovery Lodge as they are very close to the start of the Crossing and operate the first bus in the morning, so you can get a head start before the crowds. They also have regular pick ups in the afternoon from the end of the track. This means you don't have to worry about getting to the... More
