Edna, Gary and their sons are wonderful. They keep the lodge in tip-top shape. The view from the porch of my cabin was breathtaking. This mountain girl from Boone, NC, felt right at home. Hospitality, cleanliness, and excellent food/atmosphere is how I would sum up this gem in Copey. If you are in the area, make it a point to... More

As a southerner from America, I really loved El Toucanet. The people were incredibly honest, professional, and loving. Each worker was very dedicated. The food (Trout, roasted chicken, asian, salad, etc) was fresh and very good. The rooms were comfortable and I loved my stay. We stayed 7 days throughout New Years eve and into the next week. The view... More

Stayed here for two nights over Christmas break and was very impressed with the lodge, restaurant, location and tour. Very peaceful location situated in the small Copey valley just off of the Pan-American Highway. A must visit lodge for birding as we were able to see two resplendent quetzals. The owners are in the process of placing a geocache which... More

My family traveled to Costa Rica last August and one thing that we really wanted to do was see a quetzal. We stayed at El Toucanet Lodge in Copey and were not disappointed. First of all, the lodge is beautiful and well-maintained. It is situated in one of the most picturesque valleys in Costa Rica. The view from our room... More

High in the coffee country above Santa Maria the El Toucanete Lodge is a dream getaway, We had a junior suite that included breakfasts and gourmet, super healthy dinners by an Argentine chef named Paula. Gary and Edna are the proprietors and couldn't be nicer. Gary took us on an early morn walk and we SAW A QUETZAL - A... More

This seems like the perfect place to rest and relax. It's small and quite. Food is excellent. Rooms are rustic, but very clean, and the Hosts are ready to help and answer any question you may have. The view from any of the rooms is excellent due to it's location at the base of the hill. From there you can... More

Not much to add to what others have written. Just the basics: Pros: + Nice, rustic experience (Expect a cabin and you won't be disappointed) + Cabins have a nice porch and views + Dinner and breakfast were really pretty good. + Good chance to see quetzals on the main road + Cool mountain air makes for a great sleep... . . . then Gary and Edna have the place for you. We were turned on to this place by some of our own guests who really enjoyed their stay some weeks before. We could only stay a night but the next morning after a delicious fresh trout dinner we took a walk with Gary and soon found a nesting... More

We are a two couples who stayed at El Toucanet for three nights which was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The lodge is locally owned and the cabins are modern, very clean and comfortable. Wonderful Costa Rican hospitality by Gary and Edna and very tasty cuisine. The birding begins out side your window and there are a varuety of habitats to... More

We came for a couple of days - and wound up staying for a week - lovely Lodge, VERY helpful hosts, great food - everyone was so friendly, even the owners' dogs! Highly recommend! We had one of the junior suites - nice amenities, good view of the hills.
