We stayed at the Heliconia B & B last week (3 couples-family vacation). What a beautiful place with an awesome tropical atmosphere. The hummingbirds were absolutely amazing! Loes & Kees are excellent hosts and we really enjoyed visiting with them at breakfast which was delicious. They are an interesting couple who have travelled and worked all over the world. They... We had a wonderful time. Kees was a great guide and he knew a lot. Most importantly, we saw loads of animals: jumping humpbacks and dolphins, turtles, boobies, scarlet macaws, eels, howler monkeys, sharks, puffer fish, barracudas, trumpet fish, angel fish, lobsters and much more. We did lots of great snorkeling, but also two tours in the jungle. The accomodation... More

Hello Claudio S., Thank you for writing a review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at our hotel and the trip to Coiba. The humpback whales have now gone, we saw the last ones last week. But they will be back in July. More

Great place to relax between surf sessions or to explore the veraguas coastline. There's not a lot of decent accom. along this stretch of road so Heliconia is great find. Tasty breakfast, big and bright rooms and nice property to wander. The owners were away during our stay but the caretaker, Freddy, was so gracious and accomodating. We'll go back... More

We have snorkelled in many different countries but this was our best snorkelling experience yet. We still can't believe the amount of animals we saw. On the boat we saw dolphins, humpback whales and even a calf whale breach right in front of us. While snorkelling we saw large schools of fish, plenty of turtles (I think 10 in one... More

Hello Travelling Widget, Thanks for writing a review (our 50th, a mile stone!). Whale season in Coiba is great indeed. And seeing a calf breach is possibly a once-in-a-lifetime experience! We enjoyed it ourselves as well. We are looking for better snorkels and hope to have those available for guests in the near future. And ANAM is trying its level... More

The perfect place for peace and quiet... but helpful hosts to give you ideas and advice. Wish we had longer there would have gone on some of the trips. Breakfast was great, lots of healthy choices and many different items. The rooms were basic, comfortable and clean with modern furnishings and the water flow was good and hot. Its a little... More

We took a Coiba trip with Loos and Kees, staying at their hotel Heliconia the night before we set off. The whole trip was brilliant. Great hosts, good food and amazing sights in Coiba. Loos took fabulous pictures of our snorkelling trips on his underwater camera which they gave us on departure. The Heliconia itself is comfortable, clean and a... More

Hello London_Mongoose, Thanks for writing a review. We are happy that you enjoyed your trip to Coiba with us. The Panamanian parks services (ANAM) are currently refurbishing the cabins on Coiba, so hopefully the accomodation there will gradually improve during 2014 and 2015. More

We booked an amazing Coiba trip with Loes and Kees through Tanager Toursim for our family of four including my two children, ages 7 & 10 in early March 2014 that included accommodation at Hotel Heliconia before our departure and a most welcome visit upon returning from Coiba. Our entire experience was truly magical. Even before touching down in Panama,... More

Those with the time to travel to Coiba will delight in Hotel Heliconia! However, if you are wondering whether to stay at the hotel for an Azuero visit/ocean proximity without sufficient time for the island trip, please do it!! We had a great time staying at Heliconia and on the Coiba trip. Loes and Kees are two of the most interesting people we've ever met, and they take great care to make your stay and trip the best.
