So bad i couldn't stay the whole time i had planed. my Room was dirty (cigerette butts on the floor) smelled & cold (had to buy a potable heater to make it through the night). I had booked my own room so i could get a good nights sleep but the single rooms are next to the dorm room so... More

Stayed here in April 2013 and it was a last minute decision and thankfully, only for one night. While there were plenty of pro's to this place (free wifi, 25/night, great location) there were also heaps of con's (super dirty, smelly rooms, dirty floors, kitchen was filthy - cockroaches included, sheets were stained). The owner was lovely though, and let... More

Honestly DO NOT stay here. It is nothing like the photos on the website and if you are going by the BUG book - its seriously out of date! We have been travelling Australia for the past three months and this is by far one of the worse ones we have stayed in. The Hostel stinks of beer mixed with... More

I stayed there back a few months ago when I first came to Australia. As I was paying $120 p/w for an 8-bed dorm, along with free wifi, I couldn't really complain. Yes, the downstairs TV area is quite smelly - due to lack of ventilation - but the rest of the hostel is okay. There's never a shortage of... More

Firstly do not be sucked in by the photo's on their website. The place looks nothing like this once you arrive and the photo's were obviously taken a LONG time ago. The "entrance' on King St is the fire exit and it is covered in grafitti and smells like urine. The entrance down the side street is also coveered in... More

The Abbey on King is the worst excuse for a hostel I have ever seen and should not legally (if it even does) be allowed to operate. It is dirty, dingy, creepy, noisy, and very unsafe; no bedding was provided, the mattress was stained, showed traces of bed bugs and the actual room itself smelt of urine. The facilities were... unsafe, dirty, smelly, dodgy, creepy, the worst place I've ever stayed. It is NOT a backpackers but a halfway house hostel. Never again! We had to spray our room with deodorant because it STANK, 'linen' was gross and we froze at night. I would rather have slept under a bridge.

My husband and I were staying at a nearby B&B and booked the Abbey sight unseen for a friend from another state who was coming to meet us for one night. We went during the day to pay and collect the key. Despite being advertsied as being "on King" the enterance is actually down a side alley. In 20 years... More

My partner & I booked into stay at this hostel mid-week, as were attending a gig in Enmore that night. We have stayed in many hostels over the past few months travelling & this was without doubt the worst we’ve ever encountered – the stuff of travellers’ horror stories, that we didn’t think actually existed! The place & staff were... More

Our first week of travelling - not a good start. Abbey on King was unclean, unfriendly, and we got bitten by bed bugs. There were some strange guys there when we stayed who seemed to watch the tv all day and stared at you. Found a condom wrapper under our bed so someone obviously enjoyed the place! Check the location... More
