This hostel is by far the best one I've been to in Australia. There is a great atmosphere, which makes you feel like home from the first day. I've stayed here 2 months and I really enjoyed my time. It is definitely a place for people who want to stay in Melbourne for longer because once you arrived here you... More

We stayed at this hostel for more than 3 month and had a lovely stay. The hostel is in a very good area, where are a lot of good bars, cafes and parks. It is a very small hostel which had never been fully booked out while my stay. Most backpackers stay for longer and everybody knows each other. It... More

Collingwood backpackers, a nondescript brick building in the heart of north suburban gentrification. The building funnels people from all different walks of life -- artists, students, seasoned travelers -- into a share house type living space. Adventures happen spontaneously and organically. A night at St. Kilda to see the penguins, or maybe a day at Victoria park playing soccer, perhaps... More

The hostel is a bit outside of the city centre, but everything is within reach by tram and bus. It is clean and comfortable, the rooms are nice and the three big common areas are the meeting point for all the guests. And for me that is why I felt at home right away! Most guests stay for longer and... More

Before staying at Collingwood accomodation I was unfortunately subject to paying for United Backpackers hostel and its staff that stole from my kitchen bag.. Fortunately I had booked a new hostel shortly following this and settled for Collingwood accommodation. Upon arrival, the hostel felt more of a home than a business which was immediately a more positive vibe. Everyone was... More

Asthmatics/those averse to smoke beware. Smoking is encouraged here. There is no common space to enjoy if you actually care about your health and being able to breathe. This is just unacceptable to me personally, and the reason for the low rating. (The owner is welcome to this choice, but I really feel it should be made clear on hostel... More

Anti smoking activists who hate cats probably would not like our hostel, however, most guests enjoy the company of our 2 cats and do make use of the extensive outdoor courtyard and balconies to smoke rather than be put out onto the street like a leper. More

Awesome laid back hostel with nice honest staff. Make yourself at home-feeling. Feels more like a houseshare then a hostel and everyone is really nice and says Good morning in the morning etc. Free Wifi and use of computers which we really needed to plan our trip to New Zealand! Great price also. Best hostel so far actually.

This hostel is the sort of place you're either going to love or hate. The sense of community between the residents staying there long term is incredible. The people are gorgeous, laid back and all seem to get along seamlessly. The atmosphere was the best part of my stay. As for the location, I had never been to Collingwood, and... More

The Collingwood Backpackers; an eclectic mix of international backpackers and Australians that are predominately long-term is a backpackers that sets the standards of what should be expected of hostels in Melbourne. Just minutes walk away from the ever popular streets of Brunswick and Smith for Melbournians and the generosity provided by the team at Lentils As Anything at the Abbotsford... More

The most laid back place I've ever been to! It's unexplainable, but the human atmosphere in that place makes you want to never leave! Really really nice people! You need to be laid back, flexible and open-minded to fit in, and basically not care too much about the cleanliness of the place, but that's a minor detail only... STRONGLY recommend... More
