This is a really wonderful bed and breakfast in the peaceful countryside, a pleasant drive away from Alnwick. We could see horses outside the window, which added nicely to the countryside feeling. Breaky was great, highly recommend the kippers! We had a luxurious bathroom with a lovely bathtub, and the bedroom had a generous amount of space. Furnishings were of... More

We almost reluctant to write this review as we want to keep this wonderful haven all to ourselves! Callaly Cottage Retreat is by far the best stay we have had in Northumberland. Everything from the friendliness of the hosts to the stunning views, amazing rooms and delicious breakfasts combined to make this a perfect weekend away. Nestled deep in Northumberland,... More

Perfection is: - a very friendly welcome; beautiful bedroom and bathroom; a breakfast that has to be seen to be believed - if you have heard of 'fruit salad' you will never have seen one this this before - it was so pretty to look at and absolutely delicious; nothing was too much trouble to make us feel really at... We had a very relaxing 3 days at Callaly. Unfortunately Lyn had torn her cruciate ligament again the day we were arriving, this did not really affect our stay and normal cooked breakfast resumed on the Sunday and Monday morning. Both Calum and Lyn were are very hospitable people and we loved watching the bird life from our bedroom window,... More

Our first visit, certainly not our last. Couldn't fault the hospitality, the beautiful rooms, the stress releasing massage (if only we could have taken Lyn home with us), the tasty breakfast and the advice for first timers in the county. Wish we had had a longer stay.

Callaly was our last stop on a week long drive from London to Edinburgh and was a real highlight. We had such a lovely time starting with a warm welcome from Lyn who was incredibly friendly and didn't hesitate in putting the kettle on and making us feel at home. The room was everything we could have asked for with... More

Go here to escape from the world. We have stayed in both rooms twice now, both so fabulous there's no choosing between them. As usual, Lyn and Calum's hospitality is without rival. We have always spent so much time over breakfast chatting with other guests that the morning is half over before you know it! The location, whilst out in... More

Our second visit to this special gem. A quiet and beautiful location in the heart of a very special county. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated/furnished. There is a wide range of breakfasts, which are beautifully prepared and provide an excellent start to your day. The large garden provides a lovely location for an evening glass of... More

We stayed at Callaly Cottage for two nights last year and promised to return for a longer visit. This time we stayed a week and, apart from the weather which wasn't too kind, we had a wonderful time. Lyn and Calum are so welcoming and thoughtful, as other reviewers have said, nothing is too much trouble. Lyn was incapacitated while... More

With a wonderful welcome, we were shown to our beautiful room overlooking an amazing garden with fields beyond. Lyn and Callum are great hosts, breakfast was excellent and the packed lunches were delicious. The lounge/dining room is a great place to meet other guests. We love Cumbria but Northumberland, and especially the area around Callaly, has overtaken the Lakes as... More
