My wife and I visited the ice hotel as part of a trip to celebrate (or try to forget) one of those birthdays that ends with an '0'. The Missus wanted to do something we had never tried before, and this fitted the bill. For us, at least, it was a proper adventure. Romania is beautiful, and the Carpathians are... More

The Ice Hotel is an experience at the other end of the scale from a top Hilton .... but (for us) just as enjoyable. Go with an open mind, a sense of adventure and warm socks. Be prepared for breathtaking scenery and prices that will make you happy. Staff were lovely and food very good, especially considering you are in... More

My wife treated me to this little adventure on ice - I think she's secretly (or not so secretly) trying to do me in - in a pleasant way, you understand. I was there celebrating my 60th birthday - yes. I am that old - and we both had an amazing time. The trip was booked through "Untravelled Paths" so... More

We drove to Balea Waterfall to catch the cable car from Bucharest, it was well sign posted, but we did have to work out that "Balea Cascada" meant Balea Waterfall, but it wasnt rocket science. Small hiccup that the cable car operator didn't want to send it up without 10 people, but by the time he had phoned the Ice... More

The journey by cable car to this hotel is stunning in itself, and takes in the views of the famous 'voted no1 road in the world' built by Caucescue (apologies for the spelling). The hotel is situated on Balea lake, and made completely of ice. We did this as part of a tour, and the whole place (including tables, chairs,... More

My husband and I stayed in the Balea Lac ice hotel this weekend and we had a blast. We made the 4.5 hour drive from Bucharest on Saturday and we arrived to the cable car around 3:45pm. The cable car cost 25 lei per person each way, so 50 lei total per person for the whole weekend. Once at Balea... More

Balea Lake is a lovely place! If you like winter you will enjoy this place too! Services are great and the ospitality of the personel also good. The hotel of ice is something unique in Romania, you will not regret if you decide to visit it, especialy in sunny days.

We took the cable car up to Balea lake and Ice Hotel. The scenery is amazing and unique, also the service and hospitality are great. We joined the ice bar party which was a wonderful experience. We spent a relaxing weekend, and I recommend to those who want to have a different / unique trip than anything else. Thank you for... More

There's something rather exciting about traveling to your hotel on a cable car, up through snow covered mountains, seeing just vast whiteness before you. Lovely too all the snow activities, something for everyone. The cabin was lovely and warm, coffee was strong, beer was ok. The ice hotel itself is more an igloo looking thing, and your bed comes piled... More

If travelling independently and you manage to reach the cable car to take you up the mountain to the Ice Hotel, without having to ask ten dozen Romanians for directions, Congratulations! WARNING- when you get to the cable car, don't stand like a spare one in the huge queue for hours with the rest of the mountain mortals - obviously... More

Hello Explorer_Cubs, Thank you for your feedback and I’m so sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy yourself. As you have found out, the Ice Hotel in Romania is very remotely located and we strongly recommend international clients consider travelling with a tour operator, especially as the weather conditions can be unpredictable as you found out. The Ice Hotel is... More
