We have got a Groupon "Heemskerk: spanning in 13e eeuws Slot Assumburg met moordspel diner en kasteelovernachting" as a present from our relatives. GOOD: The castle and the park around are nice, and the dinner was tasty and a lot of fun!!! The personnel was also very friendly. BAD: However, the hostel room had dirty floor, the bunk beds were... The castle, including the garden, is really beautiful. We were here with the famliy for one night including a diner with murder game. The hostel has very basic rooms, which could definitely be presented better without raising the cost. We ordered an additional package with towels and beds made up instead of doing it yourself. A bit strange was that,... More

We, me plus my family of four, stayed here for one night. We drove up and yes, the castle is impressive - we were all excited about staying here. When we checked in I was slightly taken aback when the woman told me to "get my set of sheets over in the armoire". So after a 7 hour car ride,... More

Staying in a castle is a great attraction, especially if you're with kids, and this was no exception. We enjoyed the experience, but there were quite a few drawbacks. The place is a youth hostel, and there happened to be big groups of kids staying as well, which meant lots of noise into the night and early in the morning,... More

Dear Mr/Mrs Ofer, Thank you ever so much for your review! Sorry to hear that you experienced some noise during your stay. The castle is a monumental building, with old details...including the ceilings and walls. Additionally the castle is an attractive place to stay for groups, such as schools and families. We try to place groups and "other guests" in... More

I stayed here with a group of 15 year old students. The organisation was efficient. Food was perfect for them, especially as they got to make their own packed lunches with the things they would eat! Rooms were clean with everything we needed. Personally I found climbing onto a top bunk a bit of a mission but not a problem... More

I had a week free on my way to Switzerland, and after a wonderful experience at a Stayokay Hostel in Maastrecht, Holland last year, I was delighted to find another Stayokay Hostel, and this time in a centuries old genuine castle. Because the castle is often booked to the hilt with not only holiday makers, but with school groups and... More

The castle is wonderful and has beautiful gardens out back. I couldn't stay in the castle itself as a large group had taken all the rooms, but the other building was fine. That building is being refurbished, so the outside was decrepid looking but the inside was clean and well set up. Except for the stairs! Hard to get your... More

Heemskerk is an amazing 13th century castle with bags of character, turrets and a moat included! Rooms are clean and well maintained. The bar and the outside seating area are way above the standard you normally expect of a hostel. Breakfast was ok and plentiful, as was the evening meal. The grounds are worth the visit alone. The staff team... More

This hostel exudes character. Situated in a quirky 13th century castle, he rooms were clean and adequate. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The grounds are spectacular. But access to the hostel is best made by car or pushbike as it's a little out of the way. I'd definitely stay again!

What a great opportunity! The Castle would be worth the visit even if you don't spend the night. The room we had was very clean and well maintained and the staff were also very friendly. I'd recommend this to anyone traveling with kids.
