Our 2 night B & B stay was a mixed experience I'm afraid to say. This is a lovely small countryside olde worlde pub in which we saw the best and the not so good (hence the average overall rating) during our stay. On the positive, this pub is a sound base for some great walks around Hope and Castleton.... More

Very helpful staff (going out of their way to accommodate our birthday party, providing candles, plates and slicing our cake), decent pub food (bangers and mash through to sea bass and guinea fowl) with an adequate vegetarian selection, a nice open fire, enough parking and a small range of local ales. All in the middle of a series of impressive... More

We were staying nearby and wanted a good pub with decent beer and food. This ticked all the boxes, plus had a friendly local atmosphere. The menu was creative without being too fancy, the staff were friendly and welcoming. A perfect evening out.

We chose here again now that the Plough in Hathersage has gone seriously downhill. It was a shame that the roast beef for the Sunday lunch 'wasn't ready' at 12.30pm, but were offer a turkey alternative. In the end we had a pie each, which were both very good, with lovely chips and some roasted veggies. The chap serving us,... More

We visited the Cheshire Cheese in Hope by chance with friends in 2007. We then decided to stay there and we were very pleasantly surprised, so much so we stayed a few times throughout 2007/8. Then our friends moved to Buxton so we stayed with them. So it was really nice to visit again and be welcomed with the same... More

A cosy and friendly family run pub. A fairly limited menu but it is a small establishment - we only had a light lunch, which was delicious, well made and presented, but saw other food coming out to other tables that looked hearty and tasty. It's a proper country inn with low ceilings, dim lighting, and a central fire, all... More

We booked for lunch during our family weekend in the Peak District after researching places in the area (and checking out a few reviews and the website) I expected to find a cosy pub with local beers and tasty food and the Cheshire Cheese Inn did not disappoint. If you're in this area and want a tasty lunch at a... More

Small, friendly, very well run establishment. The Inn has 4 rooms offering B&B and does food in the evenings. Stayed here over the bank holiday weekend and there was enough variety on the menu and array of well kept ales that we didn't think of going anywhere else for our dinners. The room we stayed in was apparently the smallest,... More

We discovered this pub/Inn coming down from Loose Hill after morning of hikinng. It was best vegetarian Sunday roast I had in my life! Goat cheese with apricot, nuts and mix vegi fry with salad and baby potatoes. Pub is so so but the food.....wow! Good service too. Well priced. Main meal just under £13 . Good portion sizes.

Called here for lunch after walking in the area. Very friendly welcome, good lunch menu with lots of choice at reasonable prices. We choose the fishcakes and chicken salad, both the quality and presentation of the food was excellent. We will return next time we are close to Edale & Hope.
