We came to the lodge to celebrate my birthday. We didn't take a room as we only live 10 miles away and came soley for the food. We have eaten here once before - the food then was absolutely superb and this time it was as good if not better. Alan and Julie are a husband and wife team; Alan... More

We travelled from edinburgh for one sat night to put our feet up and relax for a day. We weren't disappointed. We were welcomed by the owner and the resident spaniel Lola. We had the bannatyne room - spacious with great view. We sat by the log fire for pre dinner drinks, dinner was superb and all cooked by one... More

Just returned from celebrating my husband's 50th and I had found this on tripadvisor and was impressed with the ratings. We live in Edinburgh so not too far to go but you really feel like you are away from it all. Can't believe how anyone would give this place a poor rating (seems to have had two!). We were lucky... Visited for a two night reunion with four old friends and could not have chosen a better location. The house is nestled in the glorious Tweed valley with wonderful views. The house itself is lovely - the bedrooms bright and well appointed and the communal areas cosy and full of delightful antiques. The owners bent over backwards to accommodate us and... More

We went here just for an evening meal to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was slightly expensive for what we normally pay in a restaurant but it was so worth it! We first had drinks overlooking the garden while we chose our meal, its a beautiful small hotel, very warm and welcoming and very well done. It's an intimate eating... More

I booked two rooms to share my wife's birthday with friends. The hotel is beautifully and tastefully furnished - both the public rooms and bedrooms. We all chose the tasting menu, which was excellent; well thought out and cooked to a very high standard equally comparable to any of the Leith/Edinburgh Michelin restaurants. The service is efficient and friendly, we... More

We visited this hotel with four other friends for three nights in early June. So much has been said about this wonderful hotel, and it is all absolutely true! Everything was perfect - the location, the rooms, the very personal service from Alan and Julie, and of course the food ... amazing! The twice baked cheese soufflé and the poached... More

My wife and I stayed at Windlestraw Lodge for two nights in June 2014 and were very impressed by the superb meals (both dinner and breakfast), the clean and nicely decorated bedroom, which had a comfortable bed and a very modern bathroom. Alan and Julie were attentive and welcoming and the sun lounge was light and airy. The Lodge has... More

My husband treated me to a night away from our busy family life last night. I had no idea where we were going and when we arrived at around 6pm on Saturday night I was immediately excited at the sight of a beautiful Edwardian house, complete with stunning copper beech tree in the stunning garden. Entering Windlestraw is like walking... More

I was taken to Windlestrae as a surprise last weekend, and it was wonderful. The building is beautiful and we were welcomed to our lovely room. Very comfortable with fab magazines and books...had excellent coffee and shortbread in the sun room on arrival, and then a fabulous meal. Great breakfast as well, particularly loved the amazing oatcakes, (bit iffy spelling... More
