Lovely decor in rooms, beds comfy and breakfast is amazing. Very personal and very nice touch. Staff are very friendly and in a very nice location to the beach and the shops. Food in the bar is nice and maybe a little over priced. However shower is good and view was nice.

Will deal with the down first. Entering the hotel is like entering a dark cave the decor is so dark. Saw no-one working on reception during our stay. Checked in with the bar maid who was very nice and helpful. Room surprisingly bright and clean although the standard of workmanship re decorating and furnishing is very basic. Ensuite was black... Whilst I agree the hotel is hard to find, we had a lovely stay. OK there was no view from the room, the room was spotless, bed very comfy, even had ground coffee and a cafitierre in the room. I have to say that the breakfast was probably one of the best. Really nice staff - all in all appearances... More

Good luck trying to find this hotel in the first place. There is no signage, just a bunch of hanging wires. Extremely bad first impression. Then comes the reception. The accommodation does not merit the price. The room I had a very small room overlooking a very disorganised yard. Very poor standard of decor throughout the accommodation block. The only plus... More

Good luck trying to find this hotel in the first place. There is no signage, just a bunch of hanging wires. Extremely bad first impression. Then comes the reception. Ab stunning when the lights are on and you can actually see it, well apart from the rolls of carpet lying around. Why why why is this reception not being used??... More

There has clearly been some effort put into improvements but in a haphazard way. A posh reception area (not staffed so you need to go to a busy bar to check in), well decorated room but no heating (cold at night despite asking the staff to fix) and a back office where you pay that looks as though its been... The poor standard of accommodation does not merit the price of £75.00 per night.Pay a bit extra and stay down at the hotels at the harbour. We had a very small room with a sea view but the windows were screwed shut, literally!!!! Torn wallpaper covered with masking tape, 3 holes on the bath rim, unsecured toilet bowl, no telephone in... I visit Stonehaven on a regular basis to visit friends and pop in to The Royal for breakfast but from now on I will take my business elsewhere. I ordered a simple breakfast of scrambled egg and beans on toast (beans on 2 eggs on 1) . What I got from the waitress was a plate of eggs, a stack... More

We have sampled the food several times on visiting Stonehaven and have never been disappointed, The food is always hot and well cooked, the staff are efficient and friendly and willing to advise. All items are reasonably priced and large portions. The bar is well stocked and functional. The bar and restaurant are clean and tidy but a bit dated.... More
