When I found about this accommodation I was looking so much forward, so maybe fault is on my side. I will start with the house, it is nice and common space has a character, but we didn't like our room at all. It was already quite dark and it has darker wood furniture with dark bed covers so it does... More

It was wonderful returning to Heliconia, to our virtual PanamaMama and Papa. The owners have become good friends. Their experiences have made them excellent hosts. Each speaks several languages (Spanish, Dutch, English among them). An extensive breakfast including homemade yogurt, bread, and bowl of mixed fresh fruits, and three-course dinners are available. Vegans, vegetarians and celiacs can be catered to,... More

When we started planning our 2-weeks-long honeymoon in Panama, I was happy to discover that Loes and Kees, Hotel Heliconia's owners, were (so to say) tour operators who could get us to the Coiba island for 2 nights - instead of the usual daytrip from Santa Catalina, which was not very appealing. What I didn't know was that, thanks to... More

Hello EvaF1, Thank you for writing a review. It was great having you as guests and we look forward to you coming back. We would suggest that you try to plan this in August or September, when the humpback whales are overwintering in Coiba waters. The females also give birth during this period and it is very impressive to see... More

I spent 3 lovely days and nights with Loes and Kees at HH just last week. I can't imagaine a more enjoyable time, thanks in large part to the efforts they make to be great hosts and naturalists. HH is located in the Western Azuero, an as-yet undiscovered part of Panama. It is VERY laid-back and hot, but the HH... More

Staying with Loes and Kees and taking their Coiba trip was the absolute highlight of our trip to Panama. While I believe it is possible to get there by bus, I highly recommend renting a vehicle- they do provide a great, secure place to park. The rooms at Hotel Heliconia are immaculately clean, comfy and very secure. The air conditioning... More

Dear Tessa B, Thank you for writing such a glowing review. We are glad you enjoyed your trip so much. Kees is, of course, happy that you refer to primary and secondary forest ratherr than 'jungle'. We just heard that there are plans to improve the accommodation on Coiba, but these plans will probably not be realised before 2017. More

We thoroughly enjoyed the 5 nights we spent with the owners of the Hotel Heliconia on the Western Azuero Peninsula. Loes and Kees have lovingly created a home away from home for their guests. We enjoyed home cooked meals, a comfortable and clean room, along with many adventures. We took the tour to Coiba Island with Kees who is an... More

We spent six weeks traveling through Panamá - we got to see a lot of the country and stayed at a variety of places (we did it all, Bocas, Boquete and Cerro Punta, Pedasí, Panamá City, San Blas, etc.), but our stay with Loes and Kees at the Heliconia B&B and our trip to Coiba with them was *the* highlight... If you can cope with the weirdness of your hostess, this little gem of a guesthouse is a great place to stay and see this beautiful part of the Panama coast. Heliconia is set in lush grounds which are replanted cow pasture, and the inspiration of the biologist Dutch couple who own the place. The rooms are very nice, secure,... More

You won't believe what is tucked into the woods - almost can't see it from the road. Loes & Kees and great hosts and as biologists/artists, really knowledgeable on the environment and animals. Great water and island tours. Loes paints beautifully.

The outdoor dining/breakfast area is great to relax while hummingbirds fly inches away from you. Their breakfast will get you going during your active day.
