This is a friendly and welcoming pub that I visit from time to time and always enjoy. I will say that I find the petty criticism from other reviewers about the décor being "dated" and "1970s", irritating. For goodness sake, this is an unpretentious public house in a semi-rural location. It is warm, comfortable and clean, and the unique interior... More

Stayed here one night with one small dog. Parking for car. Made very welcome .The meals are extremely good and bar staff very attentive. It is a shame the rooms are not of the high standard as the bar and food. The ensuite single room was very clean but so dated, and a very strange combination of different coloured bedding,... More

I was booked in to this place by my company at short notice and therefore did no know what to expect. The room was OK but dated. The 'continental style breakfast' well........ The 'breakfast' is 'in room' and comprises a bowl, small box of cereals, a small jug of milk and a small jug of orange juice and the tea... More

After reading some of the reviews on here i was not looking forward to staying at this pub, when i arrived the landlord was welcoming, the room was cosy, clean and comfortable, yes the decor is a little out of date, but the bed was comfortable and i had no issues with the room, breakfast was in the room, which... My father-in-law, who has dementia, insists on being taken to this place for lunch. It probably reminds him of happier times when he used to take his late wife there for a "proper" pub lunch. Fortunately for him he's not aware of just how terrible this place now is. Him, my wife and I had to sit for some time... More

Could not have been worse. Arrived with my booking info printed out, only to be told, quote: "We're full." Later on, after acceoting very reluctanly that they had double booked and/or let my room to someone else (Though this was only seven in the eevening) the owner made a few phone calls in an attenpt to find me somewhere else... Can"t believe in this day & age it is so old fashioned, bed linen may have been clean but nothing matched & has been used so many times it is really faded & this made it feel grubby. Needs complete refurbishment. Shag pile carpets look old & worn. Breakfast was a box of cereal in room with orange juice, not... More

The Red Lion is a charming English Pub in a quiet location but close to Oxford and the Chilterns. The accommodation rooms are a little dated but everything is kept scrupulously clean and you are provided with everything you need for a comfortable stay. My single room had a TV, kettle, fridge, plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits, shower room,... More
