They opened an hour early at 10am to serve us coffee and order our main courses. We then proceeded to work up an appetite by walking in the South Downs National Park. Arriving back between12.30pm and 1pm we were all served promptly with delicious freshly made meals in the conservatory so that we were all together. The views from yeh... More

I see others have had problems with their admin over room bookings - beware dealing with anything over email/internet! Despite phoning and confirming booking by email less then 24 hours later then then took over a week to respond, and by then rooms had been booked to somebody else. The auto response on emails says they will be responded to... More

My fiancée and I were gifted a night a the Sportsman Inn along with dinner and breakfast the weekend before Christmas. We arrived fairly late and had dinner once we had unpacked. The food was of a good standard although not particularly exceptional and the staff were great, providing a quick and friendly service. We had a corner room which... More

Arrived at The Sportsman which is a lovely olde worlde pub with rooms. The following review is meant to be constructive rather than criticism. As previous hoteliers we felt the restaurant side of the business is phenomenal, the food is amazing and the portion sizes and quality excellent. However, the rooms need some TLC. The views are stunning and the... More

Dropped in for a drink and a ploughmans lunch, wow a lovely warm welcoming log fire, fantastic views from the conservatory and a lovely barmaid with a great personality. Then the drinks were well served and the ploughmans was the best I've had, what more can I say other than "very well done all the team at the Sportsman" I'll... More

Lovely pub with rooms in the middle of nowhere. A difficult walk from the station in the dark, make sure you bring a torch! But when you get there a warm welcome awaits. Huge portions of very lovely food, very friendly and obliging staff, a roaring fire and a great time to be had. Breakfast in the morning is super... More

This is an old country pub, which has had the bedroom part refurbished. The downstairs bar and restaurant areas have great character and atmosphere and the staff were just great, nothing too much trouble. We were there on a Living Social deal, but were treated no differently for that. The food was very good and the portions sizes large, and... More

Returned again to this lovely little Inn off the beaten track, lovely room, charming staff, characterful chef/landlord and amazing food. My goats cheese starter and my husbands smoked haddock kedgeree were delicious and we each tried one another as the starter portions were generous. I had calves liver and my only complaint would be that I prefer in small slices... More
