This place is a real gem, fantastic value for money, wonderful food and lovely staff - especially Michelle. The attention to detail that the owner has applied to the pub, means this is not just a pub for travellers, but for locals too. The village of Amberley is really pretty and worth a visit. We will definitely be going back.

Stayed here the weekend after the new owner took over and enjoyed great hospitality. We arrived late but the kitchen looked after us with a particularly fine fish and chips with lashings of well keep ale. Our room was spacious although the shower was a challenge for anyone over 5ft 8 although the roll top bath was a treat. The... More

What a great pub this is, located within walking distance from the historic village of Amberley. With comprehensive menu's for both lunch and dinner, including daily blackboard Specials, the food is well prepared and presented and it's obvious from comments overheard from customers that the meals are very much appreciated. The conservatory dining area provides for excellent views in all... More

Nice and very friendly staff; the shower in our first room did not work properly and we were immediately given another room. Breathtaking views from restaurant and bedroom windows, one of the most stunning sunsets we have ever seen. Pub food very nice, breakfast excellent.

We visited the Sportsman mid week on the 12th August having booked some time before on a deal, we arrived late afternoon after visiting Goodwood aerodrome for a helicopter flight, also a deal. The greeting as we arrived by the young man behind the bar was warm and friendly and we were shown to our room which had a superb... More

Visited this pub a couple of times recently for lunch. Sat outside both times with beautiful views. Binoculars to borrow from bar. My crayfish sandwich was delicious & my husband says best chips he's had in ages. Not much parking, but worth a little walk to reach.

We stayed here one Friday night on a Living Social Deal. Everything was perfect, the room, bar, restaurant, food & service were all excellent. We both had the three course meal, and all six courses were superb. The room was very comfortable, nicely furnished, quiet and had amazing views. All the staff were very helpful and friendly and ensured our... More

Be careful when booking rooms here - it may not be honoured. We made a booking for 3 rooms through Booking.com early in 2015: the rooms were confirmed by Booking.com. When I phoned a few days before we were due to arrive at the Sportsman in July in order to check on our dinner arrangements, we were told that the... More

I booked the Sportsman on Living Social as a deal for Sunday lunch, bed and breakfast. It is a bit of a walk from the station (further than it looks on the map) but it was a nice way to see the countryside. The inn is very welcoming. We arrive about 1.30 for lunch and lingered over it, enjoying the... More

The Sportsman Inn is a beautiful find. I booked a living social overnight stay deal not knowing anything about the sportsman inn and it's a shiny little gem nestled in the Amberley countryside. Newly managed in the last 4 months and it's been going from strength to strength. The staff are really helpful and a credit to the delicious food... More
