We stayed there because we wanted to have the sunrise tour at Borobudur Temple. Saraswati is ideally located for that purpose. Not more than 5-minute walk to sunrise tour entrance and even closer to main gate for day-entrance. We arrived evening time and I must say the place looked really good in artificial lights. Our room - junior suite -... More

We stayed for at the Saraswati for 2 nights as we explored the Borobudur area. Since it was early September the huge hotel was empty - the first night I think there were only 4 guests - which was a little strange at first, especially because the property feels so grand. The hotel is old, and you can feel that... More

Like most visitors who want to visit Borobodur we wanted to stay near the monument for ease of getting there to see the sunrise. Based on research most websites would recommend staying at the resort within the compound - but it has very limited rooms. Given our short lead time to our trip, we were glad to have found Saraswati.... More

Here is the first thing you need to know about hotel options in Borobodur - there is the Aman ($$$$$$) and then there are budget hotels. In between, and a bit to the higher end is Saraswati & Manohar. The latter, you have to visit, if you want the sunset or sunrise tickets (they sell them) is huge. What we... More

This hotel is housed within a beautiful building, the main entrance hall/reception lobby/restaurant looks very good as do all the outside spaces - high ceilings, beautiful tiling, flowers, water features etc. However, once you look beyond these the hotel, sadly, doesn't live up to expectation. Our room was impressive in size yet it lacked in basic amenities and while the... More

We stayed one night at Saraswati hotel as we wanted to be at 4:30am to see the temple at sunrise. The hotel is just 10min away from the VIP entrance which is great. The rooms are basic with old appliances and the pool doesnt seem quite clean. We were amazed to see that there is few restaurants around. Just small... More

The last room in the hotel near Borobodur we had booked had technical problems, so Saraswati was an unexpected experience. The hotel had only some suites left. The Manager showed us the Royal Suite and offered a reduction of 15% of the normaal price. (When I looked at Tripadvisor later on it appeared that there were 3 suites left for... More

This is the best place to stay with a family when exploring Borobudur. Yes, there is a hotel on the grounds of the temple, but they don't have a pool. And having a pool is a necessity when traveling with kids. The food here was excellent and inexpensive. We enjoyed lunch by the poolside each day. Has this hotel seen... More

The hotel is across the street from the entrance to Borobudur. The staff is very willing to help to the best of their ability. We left very early in the morning and they kindly provided a light breakfast to take with us as well as souveniers for our children. Also the pool was lovely. The building itself is quite grand,... Ok, the proximity of Borobudur Temple is definitely an advantage, The rooms with high ceilings looked quite nice. However, the biggest impression I have of this hotel is that it wasrun down. The swimming pool was absolutely dirty and the parasols were torn off. The aircon in the rooms was quite noisy. The staff could hardly speak any English and... More
