This was our second time staying at The Anderson -- the first time was only for one night and we knew we wanted to go back for longer. From the moment we walked in the door, we felt welcome and like family! Jim is a natural and accommodating host who has an impeccable sense of when to check in and... More

Thanks, Splendidly, for your kind words and repeat visit. I agree, Fortrose is best taken over a few days to appreciate its charm. Sorry you couldn't be here for this weekend's Forager's Dinner. Hope to see you again -- with friends this time! Note to TA readers: the above is a voluntary review from a TA user, not something we... More

I stayed here with a group of friends for one night whilst on a motorcycling break in the highlands. I was greeted by the owner when I walked in with "take your hat off boy" which I thought was a little rude but I let it pass as an attempt at humour. The room I stayed in was attempting to... More

On entering you are greeted by tense staff and an owner who immediately wants to impress his position as the person in charge of his domain - Jim mentioned he wasn't sure he wanted to take us - which is remarkably anti business. The place is interesting but grubby and in need of refurbishment. The food is very good and... More

Dear John -- Thank you for talking the time to sign up to TA in order to voice your opinion about The Anderson. We appreciate constructive criticism as a means of improving our operation. I am dismayed, however, at your poor opinion of us considering the following circumstances of your visit: you turned up with 5 guests to a 9-room... More

I had to sign up for a Trip Advisor account just to write this review. I could not have asked for a better stay during my short weekend in Scotland. I had heard about the vast whisky and beer collection at the Anderson from a magazine but was pleasantly surprised by the top-notch food and service that came along with... More

We had an overnight stay here including dinner. The hotel is wonderfully quirky and very welcoming. The menu is good and the food absolutely delicious, the fish soup was exquisite. The ingredients used are obviously quality, right down to the bread used for breakfast toast. The bar and the whisky bar are very friendly and well stocked with many beers... More

The Anderson is an eclectic little hotel in Fortrose on the Black Isle. In many ways it is like an old fashioned "isles hotel" with its rather plain rooms and old worldly decor, but this in fact only makes it a nicer place to stay! It is not an "anywhere standard hotel" by any standards. Jim makes a perfect host... More

My husband and I stayed at the Anderson the night before our wedding. I had arranged a surprise for my husband - his brother and sister-in-law from the states - and Jim was extremely helpful and accommodating in keeping the surprise! When we arrived, we were happy to find a car park. Yes, it is small, but this is Scotland... More

We did not stay at the hotel but did enjoy a lovely meal here. The menu is an interesting cross of USA meets Scotland meets Mediterranean. I had chilli whitebait and venison chilli - neither really what I expected but both delicious and plentiful - possibly too plentiful as I had no room left for dessert! My husband particularly enjoyed... More

Our stay in THE ANDERSON ended with mixed feelings: Unlike 4 years ago we had a rather small and oldfashioned bedroom with a very small ensuite bathroom. A friendly staff awaits you and the renowned Pub offers a wide range of malt whiskies. Dinner in the evening was delicious.

Stayed here a couple of times this year; a place full of character! Tasty and varied menus, the majority of the food is local, freshly prepared and of superb quality - the house wine delicious and also a good cup of coffee too. The staff were very helpful and friendly; and as others have said, the whisky selection in the... More
