Just had a great time. The food was awesome and the room great. Amazing selection of whiskies and beers. It was great to have dinner and try the libations then just walk up to our very comfortable room. Good location as a base for touring

I recently stayed one night at The Anderson as part of the Outlander Tour booked by Scottish Clans & Castles tours. I was really excited to stay here after reading the reviews and have to say that I wasn't disappointed. We arrived and were promptly guided to our rooms. We had dinner in the whisky bar and the beer and... More

I stayed here three nights and ate in the bar. I could have eaten in the restaurant but the bar was lively and had a great wood burning fire going. Quirky decor and a huge selection of beers and whiskies from around the world. I forewent wine and drank some 11 proof beer from Holland. Definitely a beer to savour... More

At first glance this hotel and pub, from the outside, could use a face lift, but don't let this put you off. The bar stocks a huge range of specialist whisky and beers, the food is home cooked and includes plenty of tasty specials, the bed was comfy and the shower exceptional. I started this review with breakfast as Jim... More

My husband and I embarked on a week long drive throughout Scotland after spending a week in Amsterdam. We were most excited about staying at The Anderson after I had exchanged 4 or 5 emails with Jim and enjoyed a pleasant conversation with him on the phone. We had so many questions about Scotland and were anxious to ask a... More

This was our second time staying at The Anderson -- the first time was only for one night and we knew we wanted to go back for longer. From the moment we walked in the door, we felt welcome and like family! Jim is a natural and accommodating host who has an impeccable sense of when to check in and... More

Thanks, Splendidly, for your kind words and repeat visit. I agree, Fortrose is best taken over a few days to appreciate its charm. Sorry you couldn't be here for this weekend's Forager's Dinner. Hope to see you again -- with friends this time! Note to TA readers: the above is a voluntary review from a TA user, not something we... More

I stayed here with a group of friends for one night whilst on a motorcycling break in the highlands. I was greeted by the owner when I walked in with "take your hat off boy" which I thought was a little rude but I let it pass as an attempt at humour. The room I stayed in was attempting to... More

On entering you are greeted by tense staff and an owner who immediately wants to impress his position as the person in charge of his domain - Jim mentioned he wasn't sure he wanted to take us - which is remarkably anti business. The place is interesting but grubby and in need of refurbishment. The food is very good and... More

Dear John -- Thank you for talking the time to sign up to TA in order to voice your opinion about The Anderson. We appreciate constructive criticism as a means of improving our operation. I am dismayed, however, at your poor opinion of us considering the following circumstances of your visit: you turned up with 5 guests to a 9-room... More

I had to sign up for a Trip Advisor account just to write this review. I could not have asked for a better stay during my short weekend in Scotland. I had heard about the vast whisky and beer collection at the Anderson from a magazine but was pleasantly surprised by the top-notch food and service that came along with... More

We had an overnight stay here including dinner. The hotel is wonderfully quirky and very welcoming. The menu is good and the food absolutely delicious, the fish soup was exquisite. The ingredients used are obviously quality, right down to the bread used for breakfast toast. The bar and the whisky bar are very friendly and well stocked with many beers... More
