This small and out of the way retreat is set in the midst of a jaw dropping natural setting. The property epitomizes tranquility. Every need has been anticipated and provided for. Lee and Pen, the proprietors, have devoted themselves to ensuring their guests' needs are their top priority. Their ability to anticipate our needs was -- quite literally -- unbelievable.... More

Our family of three (parents and 25 year old daughter) stayed for three nights at Split Apple Retreat. It was the beginning of our trip to the South Island of New Zealand and the bar was set very high. This is an amazing lodge with amazing food and amazing people. Our every need was catered to and somehow they knew... More

This is a PRECIOUS haven in the South Island of New Zealand right above an area called "Split Apple" which is called this for a rather unusual rock formation in the bay of the area (you'll see this in the video). Of the many other luxury locations that we stayed at in the South Island, this was hands-down, my favorite.... More

This was a beautiful B&B located on the top of a mountain. It was built as a B&B in a modern style. It has a very large common room with a good library, comfortable seating areas, a dining table and open kitchen. Our room was very well equipped, comfortable and quiet. The bathroom was very nice as well. Our hosts were... More

When I die I don’t need to go to heaven- just send me to the Split Apple Retreat. This spectacular hotel with just three guest suites situated on a bluff overlooking a turquoise color bay is the ultimate get-away retreat. As a hotel appraiser who has seen thousands of hotels around the world I am often asked- “which is your... More

I'm sure it's already been said, but this place it unlike any resort you've ever been to. Because I have never been to a resort that has just three luxurious rooms for guests, dramatic views of incredible countryside, AND will turn everything you thought you knew about healthy eating on its head. I have never eaten food this wonderful AND... More

The Split Apple Retreat is in a world by itself. Secluded. Luxurious. Beautiful. Finest cuisine. My wife and I spend four nights at the Split Apple and it literally changed our lives. Lee and Pen are the most gracious and welcoming hosts who made us feel at home from the minute we arrived. The lessons we learned about healthful cooking... More

We spent 3 nights at the Retreat and will return. It is a beautiful property with only 3 lovely large rooms. The views are breathtaking and the proximity to the Able Tasman park terrific. We had some of the best and healthy food we have ever had including a picnic lunch of spring rolls. There is a small beach where... More

As soon as you enter this Asian-themed paradise, all the cares of the world melt away. Proprietors Lee and Pen are gracious and attentive - Lee will show his collection of Asian antiquities as you make your way to your suite while Pen busies herself in the kitchen preparing your delicious and healthy meal. Once settled in, a stroll around... More
