Stayed here because of it's proximity to Durham and the Beamish Museum which if you have string legs and good walking shoes you can reach on foot. The room was nicely appointed, we had a corner room so views over the golf course and rolling countryside to the East. The furniture was a bit old-fashioned but everything is there including... more

The hotel was booked for me by (MAB - see review), I found my room to be fine ,no issues at all. The food was very good, Mussels for staeters follwed by a fillet steak cooked to perfection and I must add that the local beer was fantastic. The breakfast was also very good, to sum up I would definately... more

I used this hotel for a business trip to Newcastle as it's well located if you don't want a city centre hotel. I found it on Late Rooms for £75 inc. breakfast. It's certainly a grand building with sweeping stair cases, high ceilings etc. My room (114) was small with a nice looking antique bedstead - it sadly squeaked a... more

We had our wedding reception here one year earlier and thought it fitting to return a year later to indulge ourselves! We checked in as soon as it turned 2pm and our gorgeous bridal suite was ready for us...again...everything spotless, beautiful big bed, big windows with the sun glaring through, we ventured to get a bottle of wine and to... more

Welcoming place to stay. Staff were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Food was very good, and the stables courtyard was a very relaxing place to sit and have a drink. Drinks and meal prices were very reasonable, and the grounds were a pleasure to wander around. more

My husband booked us a room for our 1st wedding anniversary as we had our wedding reception there last August. (They were fantastic from start to finish with the wedding) We had a lovely stay although it was a little noisy as there were two wedding on (disco and taxis picking people up). I do feel the hotel is focusing... more

We were there for our daughter's wedding on the 24th July 09, stayed for 2 nights. The hotel was absolutely fantastic!!!!!. The staff was brilliant, form the room maids, bar staff, receptionists to the wedding co-ordinator and managers, everybody could not have been more helpful. The hotel itself was beautiful, rooms were excellent could not fault anything. At the bar... more

Perhaps if we hadn't been overcharged 40 pounds for a 2-day stay (we paid for a premium room but were given a classic room) with no reasonable explanation why, I would have rated our stay as average as opposed to poor. Our room was exceedingly small, neither bedside lamp worked, there were no facecloths or complimentary toiletries provided, and the... more

This was our first visit to the hotel and we stayed 2 nights. Our room was a really good size but we did spot some rooms that were a lot smaller. The beds were oldfashioned and in keeping with the style of the hotel but the mattresses were in need of replacing. It was really hot when we were there... more
