An excellent hotel and a very elegant building. Our room was spacious, quiet and well equipped. Service was faultless and unobtrusive . We were on the second floor with lots of stairs to climb - not a problem for us but this could be an issue for some and was not mentioned when making the reservation.

We recently purchased a living social deal for afternoon tea. The hotel has great views and stands proud in the market town of Malton. We seated in the conservatory which was very nice, however on our exit out of the hotel I saw that others were seated in a room near to the front of the hotel.Which in my opinion was... More

We stayed at the Talbot in one of the suites for 2 nights on one of their special deals. It included a bottle of champagne dinner bed and breakfast. Every thing about the stay was exceptional. The staff are really friendly and very helpful. We ordered tea in the room. It arrived in less than 5 minutes. The room was... More

Booked to stay 1 night (27/7/14) in Norton Room for anniversary surprise for my husband who's a fan of James . Disappointing welcome, room appeared ok , clean and tidy although one of bathroom cupboard doors fell off a hinge when opening to get hair dryer. On returning after dinner found half bathroom lights didn't work , curtain hanging off... More

We chose the hotel purely for the restaurant and were not disappointed. A fantastic room with beautifully furnished bathroom with wonderful large and incredibly powerful shower. For dinner we had the tasting menu which was excellent, wines were reasonably priced and staff were knowledgable and helpful. Breakfast was very good - I recommend the bacon bap! The only negative was... More

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst visiting York Races. The hotel is very relaxing with old fashioned charm but updated with all mod cons you need. Our room was large and very comfortable with a great bathroom, overlooking the lovely terrace and gardens with hill views in the distance. We had the tasting menu on the first night which... More

Someone at Talbot for sure will be rolling their eyes over this one, but I just can't help myself for mentioning it... First of all, let me say that this is a lovely hotel in a great location in York. The building has been tastefully and carefully renovated, with lots of attention to detail both inside and outside in the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Talbot Hotel has recently been fully restored. Classic British design now meets traditional values of comfort and unobtrusive service for an elegant hotel with 26 bedrooms, landscaped gardens and a great restaurant. We are in the heart of the North Yorkshire market town of Malton, 20 minutes from the city of York. Visitors here are spoilt for choice. In fully restoring the Talbot Hotel, we have created 26 individual bedrooms – each one capturing the elegant spirit of a property that is more than 300 years old, whilst meeting your expectations for complete comfort and convenience. You'll find sumptuous beds, the finest linen, modern bathrooms and luxury toiletries, set to Vivien Greenock's imaginative interior designs. With Malton-born chef James Martin now in charge of the kitchen, the Talbot Hotel tops the list of must-visit places for local and visiting gastronomes. James, who is well-known for his cookery shows on BBC and Channel 4, makes the most of the area's renowned butchers, fishmongers, game dealers, farmers and cheesemakers to produce menus of classic but simple food of the highest quality. "North Yorkshire is in my blood," he says. "And I've been thrilled to see my home town of Malton build a reputation as a foodie destination based on the abundance of growers and producers in the area." "Guests can look forward to finding all my favourite Yorkshire produce on the menu from Wakefield rhubarb to Whitby crab." The menu at the Talbot changes regularly to take advantage of the seasons. Dishes are produced with flair by a team of highly trained chefs and served in a professional yet understated manner. 50-cover restaurant Drawing room with open fires Bar and informal dining Wentworth room for private functions for up to 65 people Morning coffee and light bites in the bar and lounge Afternoon cream teas, cakes, sandwiches and drinks in the Drawing Room Traditional Sunday roast in the restaurant Hand-pulled cask bitter and wide selection of wines by the glass in the bar Wines from around the world including select vintages from the renowned 'Chateau Talbot.' ... more   less
