I used a Groupon Voucher for afternoon tea a few days after Mothers day. What a lovely experience! Parking was easy in the large car park with disabled parking spaces, and a flat surface into the Hotel so it was easily accessed by my mum. The staff were very welcoming, and we had a choice of two different reserved tables... More

We booked to stay at the Talbot Inn for a special 'James Martin Dinner'. The whole experience was fabulous and unforgettable. The accommodation was luxurious and comfortable, the staff extremely helpful and friendly and the dinner was just superb. There is a generosity about this place. Nothing is too much trouble and there are refreshing touches such as complimentary room... More

Fabulous from walking through the door. We stayed in the Houghton suite which is very beautiful, spacious and immaculate. We had the taster menu with wine flight and it was truly delicious. The staff are very friendly and helpful and I hope to make a return visit. Cannot praise highly enough !

Called in on spec for afternoon tea on Saturday (after a 200 mile drive) to find a veritable Marie Celeste! A hastily prepared notice was on the door saying hotel totally closed for an 'exclusive' event. There was a time when hotels were there to provide sustenance and refreshment to passing travellers. No more alas! Obviously the lucrative income derived... More

We stayed here for my birthday and booked into the restaurant for the evening meal. My husband, unfortunately, forgot his cuff links. The receptionist was extremely helpful by providing a spare pair for him made by her mother so I would like to thank her personally for ensuring our evening wasn't spoilt by our wardrobe malfunction! We found the hotel, the... More

I took my mother to The Talbot Hotel for afternoon tea on the Friday before Mothers Day 2014. We had booked in advance and arrived early. The Car park has disabled spaces which not essential, was convenient. I asked for high seats as my mother was disabled after a hip operation and we were given these in the lounge, which... More

My boyfriend and I were bought afternoon tea for 2 as a birthday treat and we couldn't have been happier with it. Delicious sandwiches, cakes and scones and excellent coffee in lovely surroundings. Would love to stay overnight to sample the evening menu.

My husband and I are in the final throes leading up to our daughter's wedding at the end of May and decided to treat ourselves to a short beak to recharge our batteries. After careful consideration we decided to book into the Talbot Hotel, partly due to the James Martin connection and partly as love that part of Yorkshire. We... More

We had heard about James' association with The Talbot Hotel and after looking at the website, we elected to take the plunge with the five course tasting menu. Our first trip to Malton and getting closer to the hotel, we didn't expect it to be as close to the centre as it was. The grounds are amazing and the restored... More

Visited the Talbot Hotel recently with a friend and our mum's for afternoon tea. Nice hotel and nice food, although we got our tea a long time before the sandwiches and cakes! had a long wait for the food, but was worth it when it came. Would visit again very nice hotel in a nice location.

The Talbot Hotel has recently been fully restored. We are in the heart of the North Yorkshire market town of Malton, 20 minutes from the city of York. Visitors here are spoilt for choice. In fully restoring the Talbot Hotel, we have created 26 individual bedrooms – each one capturing the elegant spirit of a property that is more than 300 years old, whilst meeting your expectations for complete comfort and convenience. You'll find sumptuous beds, the finest linen, modern bathrooms and luxury toiletries, set to Vivien Greenock's imaginative interior designs. With Malton-born chef James Martin now in charge of the kitchen, the Talbot Hotel tops the list of must-visit places for local and visiting gastronomes. James, who is well-known for his cookery shows on BBC and Channel 4, makes the most of the area's renowned butchers, fishmongers, game dealers, farmers and cheesemakers to produce menus of classic but simple food of the highest quality. "North Yorkshire is in my blood," he says. "And I've been thrilled to see my home town of Malton build a reputation as a foodie destination based on the abundance of growers and producers in the area." "Guests can look forward to finding all my favourite Yorkshire produce on the menu from Wakefield rhubarb to Whitby crab." The menu at the Talbot changes regularly to take advantage of the seasons.
