A friend and I took my dog to the Talbot for afternoon tea. The staff were all lovely, the afternoon tea was fine but it was the atmostphere that made it for us, everybody was so helpful (water brought for Benji, for example) and it was good to find somewhere so smart which was also dog friendly.

My husband and I came for a 20th wedding anniversary meal just to the restaurant. I cannot fault the food or service at all. The staff made the whole occasion extremely special with attention to detail and each part of the meal was an absolute delight. For a very special personal event I cannot recommend this highly enough. Thanks to... More

Booked my reservation based on the glowing reviews for this hotel. Our stay was excellent . . . from the impressive entrance, to the staff, to housekeeping, to the bellhop . . . everything was perfect. Spacious room, comfortable beds and pillows, a Keurig machine, free wi-fi and computer. Great location. I will definitely stay there on my next trip... More

We arrived at 2.30pm and were given a great reception. Then we were shown to our most beautiful room (Rm3 The Lambton) which was on the ground floor as my wife is disabled. Great views, very clean and very spacious. We asked for a complimentary tray and they quickly produced one. We asked for more normal tea bags as opposed... More

Booked on a travelzoo offer as a treat for my wife and I after recommendations by 2 friends - it didn't disappoint. Lovely ambience inside and out (helped by the weather!) but highlight was dinner. Nice bottle of champagne (complimentary) on the terrace before a superb 5 course tasting menu. Colour, taste & texture was amazing and our wine choices... More

We had booked for afternoon tea to mark the start of the school holidays and were lucky with the weather. we were greeted on arrival and offered three rooms inside where we could take our tea, or the terrace. We settled on the terrace and very pleased we had. It offers attractive countryside views, and we had a pleasant breeze... More

Taking an overnight offer to include champagne on arrival and a tasting menu, with full breakfast could have been a recipe for disaster, but not here. The elegant hotel greets you as you enter Malton, easy to find with ample parking. Friendly and courteous staff ensure a smooth check-in. My husbands cheese allergy had been noted and our case carried... More

We stayed at the Talbot for a night away as part of a special deal that included bed and breakfast, champagne and a taster menu in the James Martin Restaurant. We also took our little dog. Every aspect of the deal was exceptional. We were allocated the Houghton Suite that gave us a lounge, beautifully appointed bathroom and a super-sized... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Talbot Hotel has recently been fully restored. Classic British design now meets traditional values of comfort and unobtrusive service for an elegant hotel with 26 bedrooms, landscaped gardens and a great restaurant. We are in the heart of the North Yorkshire market town of Malton, 20 minutes from the city of York. Visitors here are spoilt for choice. In fully restoring the Talbot Hotel, we have created 26 individual bedrooms – each one capturing the elegant spirit of a property that is more than 300 years old, whilst meeting your expectations for complete comfort and convenience. You'll find sumptuous beds, the finest linen, modern bathrooms and luxury toiletries, set to Vivien Greenock's imaginative interior designs. With Malton-born chef James Martin now in charge of the kitchen, the Talbot Hotel tops the list of must-visit places for local and visiting gastronomes. James, who is well-known for his cookery shows on BBC and Channel 4, makes the most of the area's renowned butchers, fishmongers, game dealers, farmers and cheesemakers to produce menus of classic but simple food of the highest quality. "North Yorkshire is in my blood," he says. "And I've been thrilled to see my home town of Malton build a reputation as a foodie destination based on the abundance of growers and producers in the area." "Guests can look forward to finding all my favourite Yorkshire produce on the menu from Wakefield rhubarb to Whitby crab." The menu at the Talbot changes regularly to take advantage of the seasons. Dishes are produced with flair by a team of highly trained chefs and served in a professional yet understated manner. 50-cover restaurant Drawing room with open fires Bar and informal dining Wentworth room for private functions for up to 65 people Morning coffee and light bites in the bar and lounge Afternoon cream teas, cakes, sandwiches and drinks in the Drawing Room Traditional Sunday roast in the restaurant Hand-pulled cask bitter and wide selection of wines by the glass in the bar Wines from around the world including select vintages from the renowned 'Chateau Talbot.' ... more   less
