We had visited this hotel about 3.5 yrs ago. We enjoyed our stay then and thought as we would like a cheap break away, we would stay there again. The hotel staff are very friendly and cannot do enough for you. I have a Gluten Free diet and they even had Gluten Free bread for toasting at breakfast. Rita the... more

We turned up in a group, quite late without a booking, the hotel managed to fit us all in, and gave us a great discount for the numbers of us. The hotel restaurant was already closed, and the local restaurants could not take our booking. The hotel manager allowed us to 'order in' and gave us space to eat. We... more

Hotel tatty, dark and dingy, not enough staff to cover all aspects running a hotel - same member of staff working on reception, behind the bar and in the restaurant. Poor service in bar, poor choice of drinks. Poor facilites in bedroom, no little niceties, heating archaic - no controls on radiators - either boiling hot or freezing cold. Dirty... more

We booked this hotel as we saw it on the English Rose web site. Good deal, 3 nights B&B and evening meal. Under £250. Near to a railway station with links to York. Just the job. Then read the other reviews and felt that it may well be a bad choice. Arrived on a lovely sunny afternoon. Made to feel... more

Last weekend trip of the year saw 20 of us converging on this hotel. Plenty of room to park our motorcycles. The young staff tried ther best but the hotel is very run down doubt if it has any money spent on it since the war. Food not too bad but service haphazard. The holding company English Rose should be... more

We stayed here on a Saturday night over the August Bank Holiday as it is impossible to book a 1 night stay in a B&B in North York Moors area over a bank holiday. We paid in advance and it cost £80 for a double room with breakfast. The reception and entrance area is dark, gloomy and tatty. The size... more

I had read reviews on the Talbot prior to our stay and I was dreading it! but I must say, I was pleasantly surprised, yes the Talbot is in need of updating and yes it desperately needs money spending on it the positives are: good location, the room we had was spacious, clean, comfortable and quiet, please just get rid... more

As you can you see from the title of this review I did not enjoy my stay in the Talbot hotel. In fact it is the only hotel I have ever checked out of early because it was so poor. I was staying at this hotel because I was working at a nearby business and the accomodation had been organised... more

I booked this hotel through 'laterooms.com' and, at 60 pounds a night for a twin room B and B, I guess it would be churlish to complain too much about the place. I would however, not have been pleased if I had paid full price. Apparently Charles Dickens was staying in Malton in1843 when he wrote 'A Christmas Carol' and... more

Hotels like this ought to be driven out of business. This place has not been decorated or updated in many many years. The single room I had was as bad as rooms in Cuba, or Wales in the 1970s. The shower room was rotting, the carpets were worn down to threads, the paint on the window was mostly all peeled... more
