The Talbot is a traditional and a dog friendly hotel in a superb location overlooking the river Derwent and beyond to the farming landscape. Our room on the 2nd floor was superbly furnished. The bathroom was fantastic with bath as well as shower and every accoutrement you could want or expect. The king size bed was pure comfort. The dog had... More

During 18th century British people organized their Grand Tour in South Italy. We are coming from there and trying to organise our modern Grand Tour in Great Britain. So, every summer, we look for very British places, to taste the very British flavour. The Talbot Hotel looked like us perfect, with lovely dining and sitting rooms. Also the staff was... More

This was my second visit to The Talbot in the last 9 months. The service and quality in the dining room has deteriorated markedly. Waiting staff were disinterested to the point of being rude. The fruit at breakfast had been prepared so long that it had turned brown and the table had been set with dessert forks and soup spoons!!!!... More

We have visited before and we're looking forward to taking my mother and father in law for lunch. Everything was just as we had hoped the food was delicious and service excellent. We look forward to visiting again soon.

We stayed two nights and entertained guests to dinner on the first night of our stay. Couldn't fault the room - spotlessly clean, comfy king-size bed and more TV channels than we have experienced in any UK hotel. Complimentary 24-hour room service for tea & coffee was superb - quick and efficient and accompanied by a smile. Tortuous route to... More

Hubby and I had two nights at The Talbot via a special offer on Travelzoo. It is somewhere I have wanted to go for some time and the special 'pushed me over the edge'! Offer sweetened further by being upgraded to a 'feature room' - The Watson, room 12, on the first floor. Room was large, comfortable and beautifully appointed... More

Malton is very well situated for a few days away as there are places to visit in all directions. And The Talbot remains a very nice place to stay. We like the rooms and enjoyed our breakfasts. Tea and coffee on call at no extra charge is a nice touch. Dinner was enjoyable but perhaps not as consistently good as... More

This is undoubtedly a lovely hotel but I agree with previous contributors about the level of service in the dining room. We had no complaints in the restaurant in the evening, but the service at breakfast was haphazard ... We never did get the extra coffee we asked for, cereal bowls not taken away before the main breakfast brought etc.... More

Stayed recently on a 2 night Travelzoo voucher with meal included on the first night. We have stayed here previously and loved it. This stay was the same, everything was perfect. The room was stunning, Fitzwilliam. Food was perfect and thanks to the Manager who served us fantastic cocktails. A truly great stay.Tthanks to all

The Talbot is undoubtedly a fine hotel. They gave us a complimentary upgrade to a speciality room at the rear which was very quiet and had a nice view over the garden. The staff are helpful and polite. The restaurant does not quite live up to expectations for the following reasons : 1. It puports to be fine dining, but... More
