I have not been to The Egerton Arms for quite a long time, so my wife with my daughter and her family decided to call in for a drink one very hot evening. Upon entering the bar I was met, note not welcomed by a blonde barmaid. Her manner had to be seen to be believed, it was so terse... More

My partner, myself, and two children (8 & 10) decided to have Sunday lunch out so we went here as there is a children's play area outside too. I really don't know what to say next about the experience. If you read the other reviews there are the good ones and the bad, but it's the bad ones which comment... More

We stayed on Saturday night, we booked room 5, which was £85, it has a nice big 4 poster bed, which was great, but the room it was in was so tiny. I think the room was built around the bed, also the mattress was as hard as granite. Being so tiny made it very stuffy in the room, also... More

Situated in a pretty village, lovely surroundings, gardens and childrens playground. We stayed overnight at the weekend. Our room was small, but clean and quiet. We were made to feel welcome and the staff were friendly and helpful. We ate in the restaurant. The food was excellent, lots to choose from and hot when served. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend... More

We called in to try a pub meal which we thought would be cheaper than eating in the restaurant . At each table there lay the large laminated menus but unfortunately we did not see the bar meals that appear advertised on their website e.g. haddock fish cakes etc. I chose the burger and chips which was £10.95 and I... Traditional pub and inn. Nice playground and hospitable staff make for a friendly atmosphere. Fairly wide menu with your general pub food fair. There is a restaraunt there but we haven't tried that or staying overnight. Nice place for a drink after walking around the picturesque village and church or visiting the farm next door.

Ben Johnson is reported to have said that “No human institution has given more pleasure than a public house.” He must have stayed at the Egerton Arms Country Inn, in Astbury Village (Congleton), Cheshire, England. Alan, the proprietor, is a true English gentleman who makes you feel welcome at first greeting and throughout your stay. Enjoy loafing on your four-poster... More

Well it's not in Congleton it's in Astbury but I used to walk there from my house in Congleton when I was 18 so it's very close. Astbury itself is a picture postcard village and well worth a look, especially in spring when the Daffs are in bloom. We just stayed the night. Didn't eat dinner there but wish we... More

Called here a couple of weeks ago, we hadn't booked. We ordered 2 turkey roasts, a lamb shank & suet pudding. All dishes came out together and all were served with freshly cooked vegetables. We didn't sit in the restaurant we sat in the bar area but it was pleasant and the staff were friendly! We will definitely return.

Phew - stonking hot day and arrived at the Egerton around 18.30 and sat under the trees with an excellent pint of well kept Robinson's and a couple of chapters of O'Brian. O'Brian sank a French frigate and I sank the Robinson's! I can recommend the marinated herring starter in fact enough for a main for some - lovely! Very... More
