We stayed here for 1 night on the 18th of September at the end of our road trip around Scotland. Having stayed at a variety of accommodation on our trip this was our first experience of a castle. It almost lived up to expectation, as it does look like a castle and the interior was well presented and had great... More

At a reception with approx 120 guests,1 VERY SMALL BAR , AND ONLY 1 SERVING, price was never the same round for round, the staff that were present walked about with radios, fair enough, but had the ear pieces hanging untidily, looked ,more like security than waiters.staff were not pleasent, verging on rude.

We are unaware of which function the reviewer is referring to but we would like to take this opportunity to mention to readers that our bars (both in the Castle and in the Marquee) can realistically classed good size as they can successfully service over 200 people and that there would never be only 1 staff serving during a function.... My husband and I stayed here for one night on the 19th September. We arrived at 2pm and although we hadn't booked lunch or afternoon tea the receptionist checked whether they could accomodate us. They did and within half an hour we were tucking into the delight. The service was fantastic - the staff kept checking if we were ok... More

We visited Melville Castle for one of my partners families Weddings and can honestly say that never experienced anything like this in all of of years travelling. Reception probably has the rudest and most unobservant person working there. Service is pretty much non existent and the majority of the staff although pleasant really look they have no idea what they... More

My husband and I stayed here three nights mid September. The grounds are well kept and really beautiful and the hotel is well positioned. The castle interior is decorated very nicely and looks amazing. We booked through "booking.com" and got a cheaper rate I think that's why we may have been put in a slightly dodgy room. We liked it... Recently attended a wedding, (not at Melville Castle), and it made me so thankful that we had ours at Melville Castle, and more specifically that we had Jane from the castle as our wedding planner (she comes as part of the castle package :-) Her organisational skills, ability to keep proceedings running on time, and information on wedding traditions that... If you're after a secluded spot in the country, this is lovely, architectural, and rural. If you're a professional used to hotel rooms - you should be aware the rooms are small with no work surfaces at all, not even a shelf in the bathroom (room 5, ground floor). The bed is small. The wifi is shocking (didn't connect phone,... More

We are truly sorry that the reviewer found the room not acceptable. Room 5 is a single room, the smallest in the Castle, and it is equipped with disabled facilities. The reviewer had booked a single room online, we did offer the him another room but he did not accept. As mentioned on the review, he left only a few minutes... More

Before we booked the hotel we took time to read reviews, most of which were positive. We arrived at the hotel and were delighted by the surroundings and the castle itself. When we entered the castle we were really shocked by the cold welcome we received. The member of staff on the desk was very unfriendly and bordering on the... More

We would like to publicly apologize to Alison L for the poor impression we have made. Had we known at the time, we would have attempted to rectify some of her many disappointments. We would also like to reassure readers that beds are made every day without exception and the only reason we would not do that is the presence... More

Overall this is a good location as it's not too far away from Edinburgh but close to the borders. As it is just off a roundabout we nearly drove right past it. The hotel itself is very grand from the outside, but felt like a country house hotel rather than a castle. There had obviously been a function the previous... More

Hotel has variety of rooms available and I would suggest to ask for an upgrade as some rooms are much larger and the views are better. The hotel location is great being just outside Edinburgh and very close to the Scottish Borders allowing access to lots of beautiful places within an hour or so. The restaurant leaves a bit to...
