Melville Castle Hotel is set in a beautiful location just outside Edinburgh. We visited for lunch and had a wonderful experience. The quality of the food was first class, the friendly service we received from the staff enhanced our time there and the icing on the cake was the ambience of the setting.

Dear John, Thank you so much for your nice review. Glad everything went well, the food & service and indeed the setting & ambiance. The Brasserie Restaurant - which is located in out converted former wine cellars - offers a unique & distinctive dining experience. Cosy & atmospheric with a seasonally changing menu. Glad you found this enjoyable. We look... More

If looking for a unique place to stay overnight in the Edinburgh area I highly recommend Melville. This hotel will bring you in touch with Scottish heritage in a typical Castle environment. Not a fortified castle but more a manor home. For Americans who have enjoyed Downton Abbey you can capture the magic here at Melville at prices that won't... More

'Downton' may be off the TV..... but we are here all year round ...so you can enjoy the class, glamour and atmosphere of the Castle at very affordable prices! Lunch, Afternoon Tea or Dinner! We are here to serve!! Hope to see you again soon! Haste ye back! More

Stayed for 1 night as a groupon offer. Living locally anyway this was no surprise or so I thought. I had a meal in the dungeon or cellar area. Small and compact the restaurant was very welcoming with no bling or whistles exactly what you expect in a 300 year old property. An earlier walk in the grounds was peaceful... More

Thank you very much for the detailed & lovely review. You highlighted many of the positive aspects of staying here at The Castle. In particular the calmness and tranquility of the setting. Despite being so close to Edinburgh and the motorway connections you do feel if you are away into a Highland wooded glen! We look forward to seeing you... More

My husband and I stayed here on a special deal (£99 for 1 night bed, breakfast and 2 course lunch for 2). We arrived just in time for lunch which is served in a rather miserable room downstairs. We both opted for haddock and chips and when ordering, I told the waiter that I did not want the mushy peas... More

Dear Linda, Thank you for your review. Sorry to hear that you did not find the 'unique & charming' Brasserie Restaurant, located in our cosy converted wine cellars to your liking. It is a very popular destination for dining, but we do understand that tastes do vary. Our fish tend to be of a specific specification and on average are... More

I came here with my family for high tea after looking around midlothian for a good place to go. The drive in through the castle grounds was beautiful, as was the castle itself. Although it was a bit quiet when we arrived, we were served rather promptly with tea, prosecco, and a three tiered tray of food. The was a... More

A gem of a place! Staff were very helpful and eager to please. We stayed in a mezzanine room which was very well presented. The hotel itself has a very chilled and relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant food was outstanding. We will definitely be back!

This is a lovely quiet destination if you want to relax and just chill out. It is a £20 cab ride away from Edinburgh central so if you don't come in a car be ready for the cost of the commute each time. We found staff to be friendly, like most of the scots in fact, and helpful.

Dear Adaniki, Appreciate your glowing review, and we are really glad you had a lovely stay with us. The Castle is just south of Edinburgh and as you pointed out the taxi fare can be about £20. Best to book a local service through the hotel to head into town. There is a very inexpensive & regular bus service into... More

Very nice hotel set in lovely grounds. Our room was fairly spacious and very clean. Excellent diner menu at very reasonable prices. Excellent breakfast buffet. Very friendly, attentive and helpful staff. Nice period artwork & decorations. Very relaxing atmosphere. The bar is well stocked with bottled/draft beers and a wide selection of spirits. Will happily return to this hotel again.

Fabulous chilled stay, relaxing walks in the grounds. Food amazing. Staff very polite, helpful and attentive though younger staff need more coaching not proactive. Disappointing tea tray for grade of hotel and no complimentary toiletries only liquid handwash big let down. A shower cap would have been helpful too. Did like bottled water. Definitely worth a visit.

Thank you for the wonderful review. Glad you really liked everything, the Castle, grounds, food & staff..... pretty much everything you would need for a really enjoyable stay. This is the first time we have had any feedback in respect of what we felt was a satisfactory toiletry offering. We will review this ongoing. Look forward to seeing you again... More

Typical castle layout with a grand entrance. The room was very large with an interesting turret ensuit. The dinner served in the Cellar Brasserie was very good, the staff were excellent and very friendly. The breakfast served in the ballroom was also good with a great selection of hot and cold food. Overall the castle is what it is - old... More
