Hotel fell far short of my expectations, staff unfriendly and require training in hotel hospitality, breakfast low standard, bathroom dirty and no hot water for bath or shower hotel management could not resolve this problems but no apology and still charged £345 for their advertised best best room, we not be back.

This is a beautiful location and was a very enjoyable stay with the exception of food. Staff were very helpful with answering questions and arranging taxi service when needed. Breakfast, which is included, was very bland tasting, eggs were watery, and sausage not very flavorful. If you are eating here, you may want to stick to the pastries and cereal.... More

We spent two nights here and loved it. The room was lovely and very comfortable. Soft fluffy towels and very nice toiletries provided. Meals on both nights were delicious. All staff very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend. Surprised at josiej comments especially about the staff. Hot water took a while to come through but was hot and plentiful after... Attended a family Wedding here on the 16th of August and have to say the whole Scottish Wedding was a let down. Seems the bride had been stressed out from the moment she booked here. Our stay was short but not pleasant. Food - Average and expensive for what it was Staff - Some maybe need to learn English as... More

Originally was only booked in for 1 night but after spending an hour at the Hotel booked a second i was that impressed and more importantly relaxed. Had a superior room with a 4 poster which had excellent wifi which was great considering room was on top floor. Room was spotless and bathroom was superbly decorated. Room at night time... More

We stayed for 2 nights over a weekend. Staff were really friendly, WiFi worked well - Breakfast was great I don't know what people are complaining about on here, cereals, the BEST pastries I've ever eaten (no really!) and a full fry up that wasn't rushed off at 10am on the dot they let the lazy guests like us eat... We stayed here for 1 night on the 18th of September at the end of our road trip around Scotland. Having stayed at a variety of accommodation on our trip this was our first experience of a castle. It almost lived up to expectation, as it does look like a castle and the interior was well presented and had great... More

At a reception with approx 120 guests,1 VERY SMALL BAR , AND ONLY 1 SERVING, price was never the same round for round, the staff that were present walked about with radios, fair enough, but had the ear pieces hanging untidily, looked ,more like security than waiters.staff were not pleasent, verging on rude.

Manager M, General Manager at Melville Castle, responded to this review

We are unaware of which function the reviewer is referring to but we would like to take this opportunity to mention to readers that our bars (both in the Castle and in the Marquee) can realistically classed good size as they can successfully service over 200 people and that there would never be only 1 staff serving during a function.... My husband and I stayed here for one night on the 19th September. We arrived at 2pm and although we hadn't booked lunch or afternoon tea the receptionist checked whether they could accomodate us. They did and within half an hour we were tucking into the delight. The service was fantastic - the staff kept checking if we were ok... More

We visited Melville Castle for one of my partners families Weddings and can honestly say that never experienced anything like this in all of of years travelling. Reception probably has the rudest and most unobservant person working there. Service is pretty much non existent and the majority of the staff although pleasant really look they have no idea what they... More
