Very variable stay at this hotel. On arrival the location is lovely with the steam train outside and the hallway was welcoming but immediately we were told that the package we booked through booking.com was not all it appered. The room was very shabby - creaky bed, horrible view, dirty bathroom, lightbulb out and kettle in the wardrobe (!) to... More

Booked Xmas package for family of four including an 8 and 11 year old. Fantastic experience from start to finish. Our every need catered for including a beautifully decorated suite with real xmas tree, gifts for the children and mince pies. Nothing seemed too much trouble for the helpful, professional and welcoming staff. All our food over the 2 days... More

We had a great two night stay at the hotel in December. The room was what we had expected - we stayed in a 'Classic Room' and had a good size room with a lovely view. Might be a good idea to upgrade to the 'Estate Room' if you want something more than basic. The food in the hotel was... More

When we arrived we were upgraded to a deluxe garden room free of charge which was a lovely surprise. It had doors out to a balcony with stairs down to the garden which I can imagine is a lovely place to sit in the summer months. I would definately book this room again. The room itself was spacious enough and... More

A nice hotel in lovely part of the world. Staff were pleaasnt and the room was nice- small but acceptable. Downsides: bathroom was basic and the evening meal was average. Upsides: the breakfast. Overall - if you get a decent sized room and en suite your luck will be in. More

Overall we were very pleased with our stay. We upgraded our room to the "Deluxe King Garden suite" (at some expense!) as we had two large well-behaved Golden Retrievers charged at £10 per dog per night which we thought far too expensive. The room itself was clean and very warm and had everything we desired including bath robes etc. It... More

My husband and i spent a weekend here, took our wee dog too! I want to tell everyone about this Jewel, it everything you want, comfort beyond belief, peace and tranquility, and amazing staff. Directly next to a steam railway line. the hotel is older, more traditional, the rooms are beautiful, so so comfortable and self controlled heating...upgrade for that... More

We spent a delightful 3 days on a sunny November weekend at the Boat, celebrating my father's 90th birthday. The hotel was extremely welcoming, with open fires in all the public rooms, and the cheerful staff could not have been more accommodating or helpful to us and all our (60+) guests. The 3-course dinner on Saturday evening was expertly run... More

Lovely old house in very quiet location.warm and very welcoming but you have to ignore the creaky ,worn out corridors .upgrade if you can as even these rooms are a bit small..but the bathroom ,with roll top bath ,was large and warm. Wouldn't like to stay too long as the menu reads very well but smallish sparse portions with no... More
