We stayed for three nights over Christmas and it was pricey - but you get what you pay for. The hotel is set in stunning scenery close by Loch Creran. The house is 300 years old and the new owners are still in the process of updating and renovating but the house has been sympathetically restored. We had a beautiful... more

Barcaldine House is a gem. The house is beautiful, and its history fascinating. The rooms are very comfortable, not too fussy so that the history and character of the house shines through. I also had the best bath ever! Endless hot water listening to the deer calling to eachother outside the window up on the hills. The best bits though,... more

We had a fantastic stay at Barcaldine. The hotel as a whole was a lovely grand building whilst managing to appear homely. The billiard room and the dining room were great areas and the food served in them was delicious. The bedrooms were nice and clean and very comfy too. Staff were extremely friendly, attentive and willing to help. A... more

I attended one of their "chef" master classes. This was one on one with the head chef whilst he also prepared for that nights dinner service. We had had discusion on the phone prior to arrival, regarding what I was interested in learning and as a result, Craig (head chef) had bought in a whole deer and taught me how... more

We had a lovely 2-day stay at Barcaldine House Hotel - it was beautiful. They've obviously got over their teething problems because we couldn't find fault anywhere. It is an old house, so if you're looking for a hotel with character this is for you. Susan and Julie, the front of house staff, were brilliant. The hotel is quite small,... more

We arrived at 9pm, the events manager greeed us saying she didn't think we were coming even though it had been booked. We had booked a superior double room, which in my opinion was tatty and old, and to be quite honest not worth staying there for £120 b+b, the rate was normally £180, I think I would have refused... more

We stayed in a cottage having refused a large room as we couldn't have it for the 2 nights. This was essentially a suite, with a living room/kitchen. Very comfortable, nice space to get away for the 2 of us. The restaurant was fantastic, the chef came up with the most amazing tastes, well worth the £50 each, wine list... more

Despite the location of this hotel being superbly located for all our needs, we found the website to be rather misleading. Our bedroom was a disappointment as were the 'public areas' of the hotel. Service was ok, they appear to be rather short on staff. At this point in time I would not recommend this hotel to any friends or... more
