The staff and clientele are all very friendly, very helpful and understanding. Due to my own fault, I had made a mistake on the booking site and yet Steve and his staff were at pains to help and find a solution. They really made our stay wonderful for our friends and ourselves. The food was outstandingly good- steak dinner was... More

Went for a three night stay. Friendly staff and excellent breakfast!! The pub downstairs does cracking food. Freshly made and big portions. Make sure you're hungry before ordering! Its location is also ideal if you want to do any of the Hadrian wall sites.

Firstly all the staff were excellent friendly and warm, breakfast was lovely and in nice room. However the bedrooms were not nice. We booked three rooms which were all quite small. I think the room we had at the top of the hotel was the worst of the three. The carpet was in need of not just cleaning but tearing... More

What a find this place was! I'm in hotels three or more nights a week for work, always try to stay at independent venues rather than soulless Holiday Inns, etc. The Anchor has got to have been the best so far. It's not fancy or luxurious, but homely, welcoming, full of character and very comfortable. Bedrooms are very clean, the... More

I Stopped at the Anchor while travelling on Business within the Area , great location and the Food was what a call proper Traditional Pub Grub -excellent. Stayed here while working local to the area. The rooms were not clean, there was grime on the carpet and floors and the shower was located opposite my room-not the best after a long hard days work to have to drag yourself through a corridor, past other rooms just to have a wash! The water was luke warm at best.... More

We stopped over here on our way through the 72 coast2coast bike ride. The staff are generally very helpful especially the red head. Some of the female bar staff could do with some customer training though! We had a Sunday roast and it was absolutely excellent!!! Top Class. The bar area was large and the drinks flowed. The rooms are... More
