The hotel was wrongly advertised in Expedia as being in Hexham, whereas it turned out to be in the tiny village of Haydon Bridge 7 miles away with no amenities of any kind. Arriving exhausted late in the afternoon, we felt trapped into taking it as we were afraid we'd be unable to find anything else. The bathroom was not... More

Anchor is a lovely hotel with an AMAZING restaurant. Though it might not appear so at a first glance, you will discover its charm very fast. Location: in a small village. It is a perfect base to explore the Hadrian Wall and the coastal castles on one side and the Lake District on the other. You would have to drive... More

Otherwise I really cannot understand her review. The Anchor is charming and, as they say themselves, quirky. The staff and their careful attention to their guests cannot be faulted. The food is above excellence - delightfully presented, a changing special menu and using fresh local produce. We really enjoyed our stay here and will be back soon. Our room was... More

Stayed for 3 nights and had a super stay! Had dinner twice and each time the food was outstanding in both quality and quantity - lovely fresh fish and sauces to die for. Breakfast - all local produce substantial and very hot - feel there needs to be a fruit /yoghurt option as well as full English variants. Lovely dining... More

For the price we were extremely disappointed. We were really looking forward to our stay but came away feeling ripped off and really disappointed. He tv in the room didn't work, the shower was blocked so we had to stand in disgusting water whilst showering and even after the staff saying they would fix it, they didn't and it was... More

Stayed for 2 nights in room 8 (not an ensuite but has private bathroom opposite). There is free wifi but couldn't receive any signal in room (staff confirmed that this would be the case!). Connection fine in the bar on ground floor. Couldn't open the sash window in bedroom. Fortunately I had brought a desk fan with me.....would have been... More

We searched for a hotel near the Hadrian's wall, and 'The anchor hotel' seemed to be the best option. Later in our stay, this was confirmed! The checkin was efficent and polite; the quirky gentleman that showed us to our room was lovely and easy to get along with, polite and friendly staff is the foundation to a good stay.... More

We chose the Anchor for its location but were really pleased with the service we got. Although we were a bit daunted when the first thing we saw was a hen party, we were quickly taken to our room by the really friendly "receptionist" and made to feel really welcome. The room was clean and comfortable and although the TV... More

The food, service and friendlyness of the staff was top notch. When we arrived back too late for dinner they kindly recommended another pub/restaurant and phoned and made the reservation. The hotel is still a work in progress so please do not be put off by the outside, the welcome and attention is first class.,
