Charles Cotton is one of the B&Bs/hotels wher your dog is welcome too. We stayed with kids aged 6+8 and a 10-year-old lab and we all loved our weekend stay with CC and we're definitely coming back! The special family room that also allows the dog is spacious and in a building seperate from the hotel but just across the... more

The Charles Cotton is a lovely hotel in the beautiful village of Hartington. We stayed for four nights and really enjoyed our stay. The room was clean although rather small with some basic requirements missing, e.g hairdryer, bubble bath, no biscuits in the room on the first or last day. The biggest disappointment for me was the breakfast, limited cereals,... more

My husband and I stayed two nights at the Charles Cotton Hotel in August 2008. We partly choose this hotel because of the reviews on trip-advisor and generally we were not disappointed although the hotel was no better than I would expect for £80 a night. The room we stayed in was not connected to the main building, but was... more

Small very average double room overlooking the kitchen. Ugly TV sockets stuck in middle of wall. Trickle of water from shower. No biscuits on tray. Average breakfast, expensive dinner (go across road to Devonshire for half portion meals (half price and same size as normal!) . I expected more for £80 a night. Nice location. more

This is a charming hotel set in a beautiful english village. The location is excellent for enjoying the surrounding countryside. Staff were friendly and food excellent. Our double room was a little on the small side although comfortable. One puzzle was finding where to plug in the kettle...in the end it went on the floor!!! It was a double bed... more

This is an excellent little hotel tucked away in a lovely little village in the heart of the countryside. The room was fine - small but recently redone with a large modern bathroom. The star of the hotel however was the restaurant - we ate there both evenings as the food was so good. The menu is small but has... more

We have just spent a lovely couple of nights here. The rooms were well decorated, clean and quiet. Our room was ok in size for two spending a weekend. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. We ate in the hotel restaurant both nights and the food was first class (Make sure you book a table if you are... more

This is an excellent hotel; excellent service, food and accomodation. The rooms are exceptionally comfortable; we have stayed in a room on the top floor in the main building and on our most recent visit we stayd in Room 4 which is the best room in the hotel, being its equivelant of a suite. Both of these rooms were lovely... more

I am an organiser for a large car club and we have used the Charles Cotton hotel for the past two years for our annual meeting in Derbyshire. Clive & Tracy should be proud of the excellent food & service they offer. We book the entire hotel out each year and everything is first class. Every aspect is excellent -... more

We were looking to book for the May bank holiday break and we were lucky enough to get two rooms at the Charles Cotton in Hartington, although the last time we visited was about 3 years ago and the hotel needed a lot of renovation, so I did'nt expect what we got!! It has had a complete tasteful refurb and... more
