This hotel has good conference room and restaurant facilities, although it is much cheaper to eat elsewhere in the city. The rooms are OK, en suite and free WiFi. The receptionists speak good English and are very helpful.

I stayed in this hotel many times. But it is becoming more worse. They have rooms, 507 for example, where the windows in winter are screwed looked- no chance to open them! Also, there is never a 2nd roll of toilet paper in your room. You always have to go to find that little car of the cleaning personnel and... More

Shiny River was one of first decent hotel in the city. When I stayed there 4 years ago was a very good choice even if not cheapest one. Now it is not so shiny any longer due to lack of renovation. Last my stay was a nightmare. There do the expansion so some rooms have a view on corridor, there... More

I recently stayed here on a business trip and it seems that most westerners stay here. I've been told it is the best option in town. The rooms are pretty well appointed, if not a little oddly shaped in some cases. Strangest of all is the bathrooms. They feel as if they should be on a submarine or in a... More

Stayed for two nights on a business trip to Oskemen. The hotel seems rather old fashioned inside and in need of updating although their website says it was opened in 2006. The whole place has a much older feel; life doors close slowly and they look and operate very unlike 2006 versions would. Having said that, it is a pleasant... More

I stayed here for two nights on a business trip. After a rather poor hotel experience in Almaty, I was expecting things to get a lot worse as I moved eastwards and into smaller towns but was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is clean, check-in is friendly, and everything works. The reception staff speak more English than anywhere else I found... More

I stayed in this hotel for 7 nights during my travel in Oskemen. The building is very nice, elegant and clean. Staff of reception can speak a good English and is kind, especially if you consider that this city usually hosts few foreigners. I booked a Standard Economic room and I was satisfied: 12,000 tenge per night (about 60 €)... More

After a disillusioning stay at the Ust Kamenogorsk Hotel, where we thought we could save money compared to Shiny River, we finally changed our minds and checked in at the hotel that everybody recommends to foreigners. It is by FAR the better option compared to the other hotel we stayed at, and probably also compared to any other hotel in... More

I was only here one night but the encouragingly named hotel was modern, clean and functional and I would happily return. Unlike in some other hotels in the region I was not required to pay on arrival which I saw as a good sign. Some English was spoken at Reception and the lobby bar staff were helpful and efficient. I... More

This hotel seems to be the most reasonable option for Ust Kamenogorsk where the hotel options are limited. In the past was considered too expensive for that city but recently prices of other hotels went up so Shiny River become more competitive. Location not very convenient but cheap taxis in the city can compensate it. Nice rooms and good food.... More
