Great facilities and rooms with plenty of space. Fires in main rooms and lovely and cosy. Friendly staff and great advice on local area. Kitchen could do with a bit more space for the number of people.

We stayed for two nights and got a twin room as you get 10% discount for more than one night so ended up being similar price to a dorm. Rooms and beds were warm and comfortable. Nice grassy areas outside to lay around in the sun. Owners were friendly. Short drive to the national park. Would stay again.

We stayed here for two weeks while looking for work in the region. The hostel corridor smelled quite strange and the rooms were cold and not really comfi. The bed was one of the worst we've slept during our travels. The owners seemed nice but one problem was that the cleaning of the bathrooms was done by other backpackers. They... More

This hostel is eco-friendly, therefore there are no heaters and no hot-showers after a certain hour. Our night was ruined because we were freezing, which is not very pleasant when you're doing a big hike the next day and you know you have to get proper sleep. Apart from this disadvantage, the hostel is nice, cosy, the lounge is great,... More

Stayed here for a few days while visiting Abel Tasman. It's a cosy hostel with a nice and clean kitchen. The beds are not really great (woke up with pain in my back every day) but everything is fairly clean and it is close to the park :)

Nice place, close to the beginning of the Abel Tasman NP. No heat in the rooms so cold in the winter. TV with a lot of VHS and a Xbox 360 :) Most of the residents are working around, nice atmosphere. Too far from the center of the city ( more than 2 k ) and from the bus stop.... More

Except for Naked Bus, all other bus companies pick up and drop off at our gate, this includes all buses going to and from Abel Tasman National Park. Golden Bay Coachlines and Abel Tasman Travel are recommended when traveling to and from Nelson, Golden Bay, Motueka and Abel Tasman National Park. But we do not recommend travelling with large carbon... More

We stayed here one night and enjoyed the accommodations. The rooms were nicely done and clean. The backyard is a nice bonus for playing games and relaxing. The kitchen is also large which is good because it is a busy hostel. It doesn't feel too crowded though because there is a lot of eating places outside. The biggest downside is... More

Thank you for your feedback and pleased you enjoyed your stay at Happy Apple..AND very sorry you were not forewarned about the showers. i stayed here for a total of about 1 week over spending some time in the abel tasman. It is a nice hostel, very clean, large grounds for tents and great facilities. The owners were not the friendliest and it seems like they are sick of backpackers! i stayed in 3 different rooms and they were all ok. Basic, i... More

We really enjoyed Happy Apple - it was clean and although it's a good size hostel with lots of long-term guests, there was plenty of fridge space (I think five refrigerators??) and plenty of room to cook - pots/pans/utensils/plates were nice and organized and looked to be in great condition. As a major bonus, the kitchen was CLEAN - and... More
