We decided on Gieng Ngoc Hotel by chance upon arriving at Cat Ba Island, and for a cheap price, we were given a decent double room without too many complaints. A few damp patches, uncomfortable bed, and only WiFi in the lobby, but aside from that, the room was spacious and in an okay condition. Breakfast was also included in... More

I've stayed there for 2 days. It's quite OK. Staffs are friendly. I like it :D I think it will be a good choice if u want to have safe place to stay in Catba. However,in summer, its price may be your biggest problem. It's often doubled or even trippled than normal.

the hotel has beautiful appearance, balconies and so on. But when you come into the room is just awful. Pillows are low, the door in the bathroom and on the balcony was broken and the closet door creak. And in the morning with a 7 a.m. start to run the kids down the hall and scream, and finish at 10... This is the worst hotel we have stayed in in South East Asia. We have spent 4 months in SE Asia travelling around and staying in countless hotels and this is undoubtedly the very worst. Firstly, the staff are extremely rude and unhelpful - I would go as far as to say that the lady on reception was positively nasty... More

Stayed for 3 nights on the 3rd floor ,POSITIVES-nice view from the balcony, good location on main street of Cat ba , air con worked well. NEGATIVES- room smelled really bad of a mildew smell, TV was very old with limited english channels, wifi worked but was very slow,no in room safe, mould stains on one of the walls .... More

Me and my bed stayed here for four nights and they were ok. We had a view of the bay from our balcony, which were lovely. The room was fairly clean and ok size. The furniture, bathroom, TV, etc. was a bit outdated and worn down. The AC and fridge made a lot of noise when turned on. The bathroom... More

We stayed here for 3 nights and booked the hotel after reading the good reviews. Curious of what the hotel name means, I put it in my google translator and it said 'gem'. Well, that is not what this hotel is. Maybe 20 years ago :) it is very dated, but cheap and clean. When you enter the room it... More

We stayed here for 2 nights. This was the only hotel in 2 months of travel that did not have a room vault. The door locks were ancient but adequate. The staff was helpful and courteous, although few in number. The view from our balcony was great as we overlooked the bay. We found the breakfast served next door to... More

We ended up staying at this hotel as part of our Ha Long Bay Cruise with Seasun Cruise. If you're cruising with Seasun, opt for the bungalow or upgrade the hotel if you are looking for something nice. This was clean and on the main strip, but that's about it. Nice and friendly staff and ok on a budget, but... More

We stayed here for 2 nights and had a lovely room with 2 double beds and a balcony overlooking the ocean. The lifts were broken at the time we went there and we thought the walls were a bit thin as we could hear people talking down the passage. They rent out motorbikes for 100 000vnd per day, but we...
