We traveled with a 2-yr old and intended to buy groceries and cook most of our meals, but dine-out occasionally . We were drawn to the area by reviews for local restaurants and basic activities. We did vacation out of season, expecting limited crowds and limited access to the activities. We encountered both - and were disappointed by the area's... more

Location is great. You can get a quick boat ride to Gilligan's from the hotel (no need to take the crowded ferry). Decor is eclectic and dated. The room was spacious but not the cleanest. It included a patio (with bbq) which was a nice place to relax when our child was asleep in the room. more

We stayed one night in "Ruthie." The room was great--very clean and comfortable. We followed Mary Lee's recommendation and stopped for a few groceries to grill our own dinner. There were restaurants close but we had everything we needed and didn't try them. Very laid back and relaxed--don't come here if you're looking for nightlife. Do come if you want... more

I was somewhat disapointed after careful reviewing all the area hotels and paradors. Mary Lee's has 2 great pluses: a spectacular and ample space in the rooms. Also plus is 2 nice beaches very close by. But beware: Cana Gorda is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays--which is the only beach with a shop (water, beach chair, souveniers). The location while... more

We stayed in the room "Suzie" for three nights recently and had a wonderful time! The room was just off the patio from Mary Lee's house which meant that we heard all the daytime conversations...but that wasn't too big of a deal. It was so relaxing and soothing to sleep each night with a breeze coming in and we could... more

We stayed at Mary Lee's 3 days and nites in early March and completely enjoyed our time there. We reserved a small waterfront room and had the good fortune to be upgraded at no cost to Tranquila, a large waterfront apt. with a spacious veranda where we spent our mornings and evenings relaxing and absorbing the Caribbean stretched out in... more

Mary Lee is an institution in Guanica. For 48 years this 86 years young pioneer has built and acquired and transformed homes on the Punta Ballena area into tropically decorated apartments with full kitchens. We believed we had booked a second story apartment with a view of the ocean. However, when we got there we discovered we were in a... more

We loved Mary Lees. This area of Puerto Rico is very attractive--low key, but lots of interesting things to explore--beaches, dry forest, birding, snorkeling, boating, good food, local color. We loved our cottage--Sirenna 2-open and spacious, boldly decorated, well-equipped, nice water views, but unfortunately, not directly on the water. Our only regret is that our time was too brief, 3... more

Mary Lee is awesome and very friendly. We stayed in Ruthie, which I'd recommend, as if you're lucky you can visit Mary Lee in the morning and tan on her large balcony overlooking the caribbean. If you do anything, go with Miguel out to La Ballena island for some early sun, peace, aquamarine, and a slice of spiritual paradise. Also,... more

As the title says, expectations are everything. Since Mary Lees is listed in the Trip Advisor B&B section, we expected a bed and BREAKFAST. First mistake.... Mary Lees has no food. Not even a vending machine. Other things one has come to expect in a lodging experience like PHONE and/or TV and Internet..... are NOT present at Mary Lees. Also,... more
