Hatta Fort Hotel is just an hour or so away from Dubai (slightly longer if you bypass the Oman traffic at the border). I wasn't sure what to expect following somewhat mixed reviews, but was pleasantly surprised. Yes, much of the hotel could do with an update (bit shabby in places), but that kind of adds to its old-fashioned charm....

We recently enjoyed an overnight visit to the Hatta Hotel. This is a beautiful spot away from the hustle & bustle of Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The room was a different and interesting design with a nice little outdoor patio. The grounds are very well kept and there is a nice walk to a great lookout. The food was excellent....
