The hotel overall was clean, comfortable and had a Yorkshire charm. The staff were very friendly and helpful. However, there were a few small things that would have improved our stay. Our twin room (room 6) has sky lights instead of windows and there were no blinds so when the sun rose the room was bright. The lock on the... More

I have to comment firstly, that (perhaps for Trip Advisor attention) 2 x 5 stars and 1 x 4 stars seem to add up to an overall 3 stars?? However, I can throw a little light on this review also. The very attractive (and popular) skylights do have blackout blinds, operated by the same tool to open and close them.... More

Just had a very pleasant weekend at the Black Horse again. Had to mention the staff who were great, extremely helpful, even going hunting for a jar of Marmite after we mentioned we liked it on our breakfast toast. We'll be back.

Short, complimentary, appreciated greatly. I'm disturbed you marked us down on value, of all things. We are extremely competitive. However, the maximums on the others mitigate my disappointment. Thank you. John More

My wife and I wanted a weekend away in The Yorkshire Dales, and Ben our golden retriever was to come along too. I searched the Net for a small hotel/pub accommodation that accepted Ben too, I found The Black Horse in Grassington. I sent an email asking if they were ok with Ben coming and it wasn't a problem, he was... More

Delighted to receive your wonderful and kind review, Chris. Especially as you were the 1st to stay in the newly refurbished room. We're currently awaiting a review for the next one, just completed, and I hope it will be as good as yours. Thanks again. John More

We stayed overnight at the Black Horse during the Grassington Festival and really enjoyed the whole experience. The hotel is ideally located, near, but not in the Square and our twin room (room 5) was pleasingly quiet at night. Whilst not large, our room was perfectly adequate, with comfortable beds and a good bathroom. Everything was very clean, apart from... More

An exceptional review, much appreciated. The 'muddy boots' thing is a bane to us. Most walkers are very thoughtful BUT there are a small number who seem to think it's a 2 minute job to clean. It isn't and causes inconvenience to others, like yourself. I wish I had a shilling for every time! Thanks again. John More

You're going to struggle to find a bad pub in the Yorkshire Dales, and this place is no exception. Cozy pub, clean and comfortable rooms, decent value, and delicious breakfast. More than happy to recommend the place.

We stayed here with friends the last weekend in May and enjoyed every minute of our weekend, the staff were friendly, polite and very hands on and couldnt do enough for us. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfy and the showers hot, a perfect nights sleep after the drive over there. We ate at the Black Horse Hotel... More

Loved my 2 night stay, thanks to a very hands-on owner John and a very helpful Matt. My room was most comfortable, clean and quiet. Liked the little writing table. An alarm clock would be helpful, though now I've learnt to bring my own. Perfect poached eggs for breakfast and I even got my hot chocolate. Perfectly located and I... More

My friends and I stayed here on the first night of our 'Way of The Roses' cycling trip. We stayed in the 'Hostel' room as we really just needed somewhere to get our heads down and needed to try keep costs down where possible. The room was okay, but exactly what you'd expect really - it's one room to house... More

Thanks for your review, albeit you appear to be downbeat even about the things you liked. I must comment about "what you'd expect". If you've been in a bunk or hostel elsewhere, did you get en-suite? Rarely I'd suggest. And tea/coffee and your own Freeview TV? From what I've been told, No. Towels and toiletries? Almost never. And toothpaste if... More

Another good stay at the Black Horse. We chose a room at the back (because it is quieter). The breakfast was very good. Right in the centre near the main square - one of the 3 or 4 local pubs in the village.

Thank you for the nice comments. The score perturbs me, we clearly need to improve to increase that. All comments are welcome from guests, we can only get better with detailed feedback. We look forward to your next visit. John More

A 17th-century coaching inn in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. 15 en-suite rooms - twin, double, king-size, 4 poster (with a magnificent view into the Dales), even hostel bedrooms. Typically Dales in its interior with nary a level floor or wall in sight! Cosy bar with a log fire, and an equally cosy restaurant with a la carte or traditional fayre dishes.
