A great hotel as a base for a holiday in Ardnamurchan. Had a great holiday here with visits to Sanna Bay, Ardnamurchan lighthouse and a visit to Tobermory. The hotel is very comfortable with a lovely bar/restaurant and the food is always amazing. The staff are very friendly and helpful as is the owner. Thanks again

What an amazing find! My husband stumbled upon this place on the internet and I have to say it is a gem. Tucked away in the back of beyond it is a haven of tranquillity with a well stocked bar and food to feed a king! Beautiful, clean well appointed rooms with the added value of very fresh air and... I stayed in the hotel's bunkhouse after pulling in when I saw their signs saying B&B from £25. When I went in they said the bunkhouse, without breakfast, was £25, staying in the hotel would be £40+. I opted for the bunkhouse, even though that was quite steep for a bunkhouse. The bedroom was fine, sheets clean, and there was... More

Can not praise this hotel enough. Stopped there yesterday for lunch. Wow . As a seasoned traveller I have eaten in many hotels and restaurants and this wad by far right up there. The bar and lounge area were both very comfortable and very tastefully decorated. The view over the hills from the outside sitting area were stunning and so... More

The Sonachan is in a just amazing location at the end of the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, close to the Lighthouse and Sanna Bay, either of which would be worth the long trek down a single width road. We were blessed with a stunning sunset over the sea the night we were there. Very friendly staff but really the Sonachan is a... More

Just returned from three nights in the Sonachan Hotel in Ardnamurchan . The food was fantastic at this family run hotel. It isn't the grandest place in the world but if you want to get away from the rat race, meet some friendly people and have great food and drink this gem is well worth a visit.

We enjoyed a lovely family meal here last Sunday lunchtime after having been disappointed at another local hostelry. Warm, friendly atmosphere with tasty, well cooked and presented food at very reasonable prices. The bar area is welcoming and family friendly (high chair provided with a smile!), and the staff provided a very good level of service despite the lunchtime rush. Would... More

Over the years we have been regular visitors to Kilchoan and the surrounding area as relatives and friends live there - however this was our first stay at Sonachan. While the reasons for our two night stay were personal and sad the stay itself cannot be rated highly enough! The family room with en-suite was spacious, comfortable and very clean.... More

We stayed 3 nights and had a brilliant time. The rooms are lovely, spacious and clean. The food was extremely good and exellent full scottish breakfast. the staff are friendly and welcoming, with a very laid back relaxed west highland way. This place is a must stay and well worth the long journey, with spectacular scenery and beaches.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Farmhouse B&B, with fully licenced Cafe Bar/Bistro. Nestled in the hills overlooking a crofting township towards the North Atlantic ocean, Isle of Canna can be seen. Sanna bay is a 30 minute walk on a good footpath through the Glen. Sonachan is an extended farmhouse on a working farm located only 3 miles from Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, the most westerly point on Mainland Britain. 3 miles from KIlchoan village, where the Cal- Mac ferry runs 7 times a day to Tobermory. Sonachan offers reasonably priced B&B, you have the advantage of being able to eat on the premises. There is a good choice of home cooked food sourced from the surrounding area. The salad and veg is grown in the garden across the road, the pork, beef and mutton from Sonachan farm and lots of local seafood. If you enjoy a laid back atmosphere, informality and cheerfulness, this is the place to stay. It has been run by the same local crofting family for 50 years. Please remember they are farmers/Crofters who supplement their income doing B&B, we are talking indigenous Crofters here, just earning their keep. You will enjoy it fine if you want a clean room and good wholesome food. Are not in too much of a hurry or concerned about the lack of mobile phone coverage. There is free wi fi available, but if that is acting up you will just have to talk to each other. It is children friendly and well behaved dogs are welcome. Lots of fresh air, coastal walks, white sandy beaches and no light pollution so tremendous dark skies. ... more   less
